I have N360 V5 on a Sony Vaio laptop. OS is Win 7 Pro 64 bit. All patches and updates installed.
I just purchased a Canon PIXMA MG5320 AIO wireless printer. In trying to install the MP Drivers (needed to connect the computer to the printer wirelessly) I get an error when the setup software attempts to communicate with the printer stating that no printer is detected. I have to abort the installation. I have tried the same setup using the option of setting up the network connection via USB in order to install the software and the setup sees and uses the router but when attempting to communicate with the printer the same error appears.
I spoke with Canon Support and spent a long time confirming that the printer sees and uses the router. He suggested that N360 is stopping the setup software from talking to the printer during setup. He provided port numbers that are used by the software and I created a firewall rule allowing those ports to be used bi-directionally. Not sure if I set that up correctly and can provide details on the rule if requested. Bottom line: still no luck when trying to install the wireless software. Same error message.
I used the N360 Network map and under the router the printer shows up there along with the rest of the network items. I set the Trust level to full for it but still no luck in installing the software.
Check the security measures you have set in the router, such as MAC address filtering, WPA encryption, etc. Make sure the printer is allowed and has the correct passphrase. Norton should allow the printer without having to open ports manually. I would suggest using the firewall reset button to put all firewall rules back to their defaults, Then make sure the Network Security Map shows your network trust level at "Shared" or "Trusted" and that the printer also is set to "Shared" or "Full Trust." That should be all you need as far as Norton goes.
That changed the trust setting for the LAN. If your connecting through Wifi, click the arrow next to that box and change it to your wireless adapter then change that trust level as well.

Thanks for the reply. Checked the Belkin router setup and MAC address filtering is not enabled. Using WPA2 encryption and password is entered and correct. A desktop PC, a HP laptop, a Vizio TV and the new printer all use the network with no problems. The HP laptop (using Bitdefender IS 2011) has the same software and connects to the printer fine (after setting an Allow rule in BD),
Will using the firewall reset button remove all current approvals and rules? Haven't messed with the fireall settings much so don't want to screw things up
The Firewall reset will remove any user-made custom rules and set the general rules to their defaults. In the default configuration, the firewall should not interfere with your PC seeing the printer IF your Network Trust Level is "Shared" or "Trusted." You could however, since you are behind a router, safely temporarily disable the Norton Firewall completely and see if that is indeed the cause of your problem. Things will be easier to troubleshoot if we know whether the firewall is blocking or whether (as so often happens) something in the wireless setup is misconfigured.
OK, I don't have any rules I have setup other than the one allowing the ports as suggested by Canon. I have removed that one and all rules should now be the original ones.
A little leery about disabling the Norton firewall but you say the Belkin router's firewall should protect me, correct? Here are the settings from the Features secftion of the router setup home page: Firewall Settings Enabled SSID Belkin.xxxxx Security WPA-Personal ( PSK ) UPnP Enabled Remote Management Disabled WPS Enabled
As long as there are no infected devices on your Local Area Network, you are safe from the internet behind a router. I am a bit confused by what you said earlier - you said that the other computers do see the new printer but the one in question does not. That would imply the issue is the Norton Firewall, or possibly something else on the one computer rather than a network or router issue. Aside from the printer does the PC see the other devices on the network?
Also, please confirm what encryption you are using. You stated earlier WPA2, but your router configuration shows WPA. Make sure all devices are using the same thing. If the router is set to use WPA, then the printer also needs to be WPA.
Also you show WPS enabled. DId you add the printer to the network using the WPS method?

OK, no infected devices on the LAN.
Which PC do YOU mean? Aside from the printer does the PC see the other devices on the network? The Norton Network map shows the Sony Vaio (this is the one that is having the connection problem), my Desktop PC, the HP laptop, a Vizio wireless Internet capable HDTV and the Canon MG5320 printer.
The Belkin router lists the Security Mode as WPA/WPA2-PERSONAL (PSK) and the Authentication as WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK and the Encryption Technique as AES.
No, I added the printer to the network manually by entering the Passkey.
OK, I disabled the N360 Smart Firewall and ran the MP Drivers setup. No success, same error message. So that suggests that something other than the firewall is causing the problem, correct?
What's funny is that I was able to install the software on the HP laptop with no problems and just has to add a Allow rule in Bitdefender in order to be able to print from it. Don't know why the software would install on the HP running Bitdefender and not install on the Sony running N360. Any suggestions
The encryption looks good. So the printer shows in the network security map? Click on the entry for the printer and click [Edit] for the trust level and set the printer to "Full Trust."

I had already set the printer to Full Trust.
In the map the only device that shows as Online is the Sony. All other devices show as being Offline. Could that have anything to do with the problem? The desktop PC, the Vizio TV, the HP laptop and the printer all show as being Offline.
If everything else is turned on and communicating with each other and the Sony doesn't see them as online, then yes, I think that would be something to look at.
Is ther any other security software on the Sony? This would include the programs preinstalled with your operating system.
Thanks
Windows Defender came with the system but it is not enabled. All security is handled by N360. I have Malwarebytes Antimalware but it is the free version so it doesn't have a resident scanner. It must be run manually and is only for removing malware, no firewall features at all.
If you click on Start>Devices and Printers, is the HP listed as a device, or as default printer?
If you have a home group, in Win 7, you will need to go to Network and Sharing>click on your wireless network connection> scroll down to activities>properties and make sure that all protocols, especially IPv6 is enabled. If you are sharing without building a home group the IPv6 isn't an issue.
