N360 and System Restore

Does performing a System Restore in Windows 7 affect the current version of N360 and the recent updates made by N360?  I am considering restoring the pc I am using to a restore point created yesterday.

Hi a123,

Welcome !

Infact the System restore proess will revert the entire settings of your computer to the date that you select. Therefore it will surely  affect the virus definitions or the recent updates that you collected for your Norton 360 program as well. It will even wipe out the Norton protection if the date you're selecting to perform system restore does have the Norton install.

Please revert for any clarification, I'd more than happy to help further.

Thanks and regards,

Hi a123,

Using System Restore will very likely cause some issues with Norton 360.  Running LiveUpdate may correct the problems if they are minor, but often the disruption to Norton will be severe enough that you would have to uninstall and reinstall the program.  The problems arise because System Restore reverts certain files to earlier versions while leaving others in their present state.

Also, prior to using System Restore, you will need to turn off Norton Product Tamper Protection or the restore will fail due to Norton preventing access to its files.  Remember to reenable NPTP after the restoration.

Am I correct to assume that running System Restore will affect N360 in some way especially if N360 has been updated after the restore point was created?

Hi,

It might, based on the type of updates installed as suggested in the previous posts

Its good to update Norton after System Restore is done

It is very likely.  The effects of restoring to yesterday may be minor, possibly only requiring a LiveUpdate session and a reboot.  But again, the possibility of having to reinstall Norton always exists after a restore operation.  System Restore is not always the best option - what is it that you are trying to fix?

I did execute System Restore and N360 seems to have corrected its problems through LiveUpdate.  I was not sure if a hard drive driver was reinstalled correctly in Device Manger so I felt to be safe that I run System Restore.

Hi,

Good to hear that Norton is working good on the computer now and I assume the computer does not have any issues now and is healthy..

Just wanted to give you a tip if you are planning to do a system restore just to fix a problem with a driver update..

Open Device Manager and right click on the device name that you have recently updated and go to Properties, Select the "Drivers" Tab and do a "Rollback Driver"

This way, you can rollback the drivers alone to a older version rather than changing the settings of all the programs by doing a System Restore..
