N360 Firewall Blocking Network

Hi,

We recently purchased a new computer for the office and set up a homegroup through Windows 7 to network it with our older computer (6mos old, so not really "old").  The new computer can see and access the older computer.  The older is able to see the new one but is not able to access it. Networking and file sharing is imperative between the two.  I have installed N360 on both computers and they have identical settings.  The only success I've had is to completely turn off the firewall on the new computer which leaves it vulnerable.  However, the older computer functions fine with the firewall turned on.  Can someone please help me out here?  What's going on?

Thanks!

Dina

Hi, Dina,

Welcome to our community!

There is a network map in your Norton 360 that can be set to govern visibility of devices on your LAN to one another. You should make sure that this "trust level" is set to at least "shared" on each machine you want to be able to see each other.

Sorry I can't be more specific: I'm not where I can access a PC equipped with Norton 360 at the moment as I'm responding from a mobile device. Hopefully, this will give you enough information for you to poke around and find it.

There have been a couple recent threads on this issue, so I will see if I can find any of them and link them here, in an edit....

You're in luck! The following comes to you courtesy of the late, great mdturner--a real angel:

Open Norton 360, go to Network Security Map, click on Edit next to Network Details and set the Trust Level to Full Trust.

If you're a tad on the conservative side, you might want to start with "Shared" rather than "Full Trust," and see if that works. If not, you can come back and open it up the rest of the way.

The settings will need to be the same on both machines.  Are the operating systems the same?

Basically an extended version of Disted2's post.

Open up Norton, go into Tasks and click Check Network Security Map.

If it's your first time opening up the application please let it initialise, this will only take a couple of seconds.

Then a big screen will show up showing you what is connect to what etc...

You can change settings in there, e.g. if people are trusted, or kick them off your network.
