hi there…I noticed this happened to me when I had more than one firefox process running in the processes tab of the windows task manager. For me it is a result of the zombie processes problem where you have opened firefox and then closed it but its still showing in the processes tab. The only solution I found was to delete the process from my processes tab, make the change in nortons and then reopen fire fox to test it out. Hope it helps. This zombie process thing is a real nightmare!

This is not only a Norton thing.

I have another vendor on my business laptop but there is the Firefox zombie as well.

I am not facing Firefox zombie. I wanted to disable Clean private data but to do so i need to go in N360's setting. why N360 is overridding the Firefox option.

For the zombie process problem see the following link --> here

For the firefox issue, you don't have to change the setting in Norton 360, you can set it in Firefox as well. Once you set it in Firefox, the Norton 360 setting will change.

Sounds reasonable.

Thanx, Matt

Thank You matt but not really.

let me give you exact steps so that you can revirify your thoughs.

Steps:

1. set the Fire fox privacy cleanup in N360 (which by default setting)

2. Go in Firefox's Tools-> Options-Privacy and Uncheck the "Always clear my private data when i close the Firefox"

3. Save the change and restart the firefox.

Now as per your thougts it should reflect in N360 as well, Right ?

BUT

actully when you verify it in Firefox this check box ("Always clear my private data when i close the Firefox" ) will be checked. the only way to uncheck it is go in N360 and make the chages over there.

Note : FireFox's Version which i have is : 2.0.0.15

Please verify it then reply back.

Ok I just ran the exact steps below, including the exact version of Firefox.

What I observed seems a bit odd to me. What we are setting are the following when you check the box for Firefox privacy data:

privacy.sanitize.sanitizeOnShutdown - true

privacy.sanitize.promptOnSanitize - true

privacy.item.cache - true

privacy.item.cookies - true

privacy.item.formdata - true

privacy.item.history - true

privacy.item.passwords- true

You can see these by going to FF and typing about:config and filter by privacy.

The odd behavior you describe will be looked into, in the meantime, if you just shut off (uncheck) the Firefox privacy control, then you should be able to set it to whatever you desire and it should work fine, it did for me.
