Been awhile since I've been on here and see that my version of N360 is a wee bit old.
Reading FAQ it says that this update can ONLY be done through Norton Update Centre and that my CURRENT version of Norton will be UNINSTALLED and the new version will be installed.
No problem with that, EXCEPT I'm still using the LOCAL ID Safe Vault and wish to remain using the LOCAL ID Safe Vault. From past updates I was under the impression that the LOCAL vault would remain ONLY if the update was done 'on top' of what is on my Windows desktop. Will installing this new version of N360 cause me to lose my LOCAL ID Safe Vault? Or, has Symantec come to their senses and is now allowing users to choose local or on-line vaults??
I have updated my system via the Update Center and all settings and my Local Vault were retained.
Now with that said, since you are on an older version, I would suggest you run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool This tool will see that you have an older version and update it to the current version 21.1.1.7 while retaining your settings and your Local Vault.
As always, just as a precautionary measure, please Export your Identity Safe Data prior to running the tool. Export it in obth .csv and .dat format.
If you can not find the software for Ghost and/or do not feel like removing it, you can follow the instructions in the Product Announcement and will not have to do anything to Ghost. Things should work just fine. In the announcement which says to select version 20, You probably will not have to do that - as you are still on version 20. The updater should recognize you are on v 20 and update.
Bottom line - since you have Gost installed - it might be easier in the long run to use the Norton Update Center method.
have now updated to the current version (without resorting to losing Ghost) and still have retained the local vault with all the info.
Doesn't seem to be as 'user friendly' as what I had previously, took me awhile to figure out how to export the ID safe; seems to be almost hidden away.
Hopefully no problems will surface as the hours go by.
No problem Barb - a lot of users were confused when they first got to v 21 (as I was), but we have it figured out pretty well now and if you need any help - you know where to find us!
