N360 - Sync Online Backup

Please offer a way to link N360 to an existing backup set and sync with that backup set.

When reinstalling Windows N360 creates a new backup set with the PC name.  What I would like to do is link with an existing backup set and use that as the default backup set complete with all the rules used with that backup set.

This would reduce duplicate sets and help prevent confusion when restoring files that results from having multiple backup sets with the same name.  It would reduce the hassle of re-creating my backup rules and filters and make the process much more seamless.

I would like to be able to restore most files from a local backup and have N360 backup sync any missing files to that directory structure.  For example I might restore all photos and music from a local backup.  Then N360 would restore any other files in the online backup set and keep them sync'd.

I agree with the idea that we need to be able to fully sync with a previous backup set.  This seems to be a big "gray" area for N360 users.

Hi athena,

Thank you for considering this.

I also use Google and Microsoft Live services to store/backup data.  Google hasn't yet implemented this adequately.  With Google services I can easily store all my files on their servers (I bought 80GB for $20), but they aren't synchronized with my files system.  They want me to use their web-based file system and don't really offer a method to easily restore large blocks of files.  In fact moving a lot file sets between my system and Google is a real pain.

Microsoft gets the idea much better and provide a great sync framework with Microsoft Live Sync services.  This framwork allows me to actually sync my directory structure with a remote web-based network (their cloud services).  Their desktop photo manager allows me to sync my photos and if I want to sync other files I can use Mesh.  Where their solution fails is managing and dealing with files remotely.  Their web tools for management are really crude (skydrive and photo) and Mesh is a beta tech research experiment and not suited for production use (in my opinion at least).

I think people are looking for a way to secure their data (ie backup) and have it accessible from multiple locations and platforms (phones, tablets, laptops, home, work, etc).  N360 and/or Nobu could reasonably solve that problem.
