N360 v5 Gadget

First my OS is Win7 Ultimate 64-bit.

After installing Norton 360 v5, I have installed a new graphics-card. Now the gadget is shown, but without the green "Safe" band, and the three bottoms underneath. I have tried to remove the gadget and then reinstalled it using Windows gadget-tool but with the same result; an empty Norton gadget.

Can anyone please help me?

Did you install N360 V5 clean or as an upgrade on top of V4 or earlier?

What was the source of the V5 file -- retail CD, download from Norton, Norton Update Center?

Was it OK before you changed graphics card?

Did you get the latest 64 bit driver for the new card and make sure that it replaced whatever was being used by Windows before?

Might be helpful to know exactly what graphics card it is and what the previous one was ....

It was an upgrade from 4,0

It was a downloaded

It was O.K. before I changed the graphics card

Yes I have installed the latest 64-bit driver

My graphics card is a ASUS EAH5830 DirectCU/2DIS/1GD5

Does this help?

Yes that helps in that some people do seem to be having problems with in place upgrades from V4 to v5.

The solution that seems to work most of the time is to uninstall the resultant version that you have now, run the Norton Removal Tool to clean up and then install from a downloaded one piece installation file for V5 that we can give you the URL to.

There are some things you need to do in a certain way, apart from saving your Identity Safe data if you use that so would you please wait for another guru to post the complete procedure ....

Make sure you download the correct version of N360 to match your standard, premier or netbook since the KEYs are not interchangeable. If you don't have a copy of the KEY where you can find it please say so and we can point to how to find it.

Thanks!

The trouble with this resolution, is that I still have 1 activation left. (bought to install on 3 PC's). So by reinstalling V5, I will use the last activation. The Symantec system does not know that it is the same computer I am installing it on. (A very good thing would to sop using activation - that goes for Microsoft too - but in this day and age the consensus is; that everybody is a criminal).

So to recap; I can not use this option.

While your facts are correct your conclusion is not! <vbg>

If you reinstall, or transfer from one PC to another for that matter, and the database shows an activation lost then Customer Support will sort  this out quickly and painlessly if you just contact them as below:

To contact customer support Click on this link and work on from there.

You can choose CHAT or Email; email & phone may have a long wait time and feedback from users tells us that CHAT is by far the best at resolving problems.

Note that that link is to the USA/CAN website
so if you are located elsewhere I'm sure you will be able to find the equivalent location on your local Symantec website; some pages have a link at the top right where you can select the country you are located in.

Sure it would be nice if the central database was always in step but that's life.

You don't always lose an activation since it is not uncommon for the re-installation to recognize that it is on the same hardware and does not signal a new activation to the server.

So if you are willing to try this do believe me that this on top upgrade problem has been flagged to Norton and their teams are working on it.

I too have this problem...

1. Using  Windows 7 64 bit Pro was fully up to date.
2. Previous Version 4.3.0.5  desktop gadget was working correctly

3. Installed Norton 360 Premier Edition 5.0.0.125
4. Removed automatically by the upgrade program

5. The new version 5 gadget worked, upon installation for a day,

6. When Win 7 Pro updated to new Service Pack:

    - After reboot, Norton Gadget shows up as a blank black gadget with no status or icons below it.

      BlankGadget.JPG

    - When I clicked on my Norton desktop gadget nothing works

(it is not able to bring up Norton 360 Premier Main Panel, have to double click the Desktop Icon).

There has to be an easier way than to uninstall 360 run a cleanup program and reinstall 360!

That is precisely how my gadget appears.

But I have not updated my Win7 Ultimate 64-bit with SP1 (in fact I can not! I get and error message when I try. Maybe the two problems are connected? ...Well maybe not)

I still do not like the idea to reinstall my N360 5.0 and maybe be faced with the problem that I have to contact costumer service (I still have not used my last activation). As I wrote before, I am an honest person and should not have to go thru all that. Criminals are unfortunately not unintelligent. They probably already have solved the problem of activation. So please, fight the criminals some other way, so we, the honest people and a majority, do not have to pay the price by having all the bother of activation and what not.

Looking forward to a speedy resolution.

I have the same problem.  I will wait until they fix it befor I deinstall/reinstall.

Same problem.: Gadget is just a black box and has no effect any more when clicked on. It did work for quite a long time (weeks) after the online upgrade to 5. The problem occurred after another N360 problem that caused IE to abort when started. The abort of IE continued until a LIve Update finally corrected it. Later (maybe a couple of days) the gadget ceased working. I don't recall any Windows update occurring that could be the source for the problem.  Reinstalling does NOT seem to solve the problem!   OS is Win 7 64bit.

Correction! I tried to reinstall again and it does work for me. The gadget is now working correctly.

I also don't have a working gadget for Norton 360. It worked at first when I upgraded to the newer version, but quit working shortly after. Does anyone know what to do to get it working again? Thanks

I too, have this problem. Have you been able to fix it yet? I would like to know if you have, Thanks :)

I have finally use my last activation. Then I tried to reinstall N360 V5, on the computer that caused the problem. This seems to work. Though it start of as a blank gadget, but after 10 to 15 seconds it change to a fully functionally gadget.

I do not mark it as solved, since it should not be a problem in the first place. Symantec needs to fix this problem.

Your

Henrik

Add me to the list of the gadget not working.  Will Symantic push a fix to this? Any estimate of when?

If that was in reinstalling because of problems please contact Customer Support via OnLine CHAT so they can reset the  database -- just tell them what is going on and you should have no problem.

Just to clarify. The last activation was on a third PC, and not the PC with the problem. The PC with the problem, I simply reinstalled the program, and it works again. (Except for the fact that it starts out blank, then after 15-20 seconds, a fully functional gadget appears.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will have to re-install it. It does work on my other pc which is a Vista. I keep expecting it to stop working at any time. But this pc is a windows 7 and I believe that's where the problem is. Thanks again :))

Stranage things seem to happen with Gadgets in Windows 7 (32) -- the Calender gadget on my wife's desktop at that top of a column of others regularly disappears and has to be reinstalled from the Gadget control on my wife's desktop but on the same PC on my desktop this never happens .......

Has anyone found a cure for this without uninstalling / reinstalling? My last experience with removal tool was not good as it deleted other installs out of my install directory and led to problems with Microsoft Office.
