Are there conflicts between Vista Home Premium with vista service pack 1 installed?

Based on commenters' replies and my own trouble-shooting of this problem, I have performed the following fixes:

1) Disabled "NAV Load On Start-up". Open NAV, click Options, click "Real Time Protection", click "Auto Protect", uncheck "Load NAV On Start-up". Although this does disable boot sector checking, I believe it is good programming to prevent NAV from loading before Windows to avoid conflicts with shared files. Although having NAV load prior to Windows does disable boot-sector checking, I believe that the risk is minimal unless you are doing a ton of file-sharing, which I am not.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that malicious websites contribute significant boot-sector viruses.

2) Turned Off Windows Defender AV and Windows Firewall. Do these from your Control Panel, Security panel. Seems I omitted to do this task when I bought this PC.  It's not a good idea to have more than one AV running at the same time as conflicts will occur. And, should Windows Defender seek an auto-update at the same time as NAV, a Windows lockup can occur.

3) Since I'm also running SpySweeper, another resource hog and slow to load, I give this program additional time to finish loading after startup before checking "Yes" on the NAV Live Update. Place mouse on SpySweeper quick launch icon at bottom right of screen and verify it's finished loading prior to enabling Live Update check.

I have performed a series of 12 startups and shutdowns in a row, and, so far, my random error of Live Update crashing Vista has not returned. I believe I have solved this problem, but will monitor it for future conflicts.
