Did all that, still froze up for the 3rd time.  After cleaning it up again, finally found the answer.  Unistalled Zone Alarm.  That was never necessary on upgrades in the past.  Thanks for the help.

Received offer for free upgrade to 2009.  Downloaded, installed, (twice), both times the computer froze while trying to register (?)

Had to start in Safe Mode, use System Restore, everything is okay except nav won't load so now running with no nav protection.   What did I do wrong when I tried to do this?

Thanks.  John R

You should never run two Anti-Virus Products on the same computer at any one time because of conflicts - which actually reduces your Protection.

Zone Alarm is NOT an anti virus. There are several versions of Zone Alarm. Zone Alarm Free,Anti Spyware and Pro dont have the Anti virus package. ZIS and Zone Alarm Anti Virus has the anti virus.

Although not an AV in all versions Zone Alarm does have a long standing reputation of interfering with other security applications and the early versions of the newest Suite which did include AV had to be uninstalled by many users while ZA fixed it.

Correct. Besides that most versions do have some sort of anti spyware and those aren't working with most av's as well

Why dont you try uninstalling NAV 2008 first. Where did you get the upgrade off from. Check here first. Also you may need to use the Norton Removal Tool to unisntall 2008 then install 2009. Be sure you are not using any 3rd party downloaders.
