Already tried that sends me to a screen where it says autofix cannot repair contact support.  Thanks for the suggestion

Is there any Error Message...?

What is your O.S. and Version?

XP pro not sure which other version your referring too but downloaded nav2008 last week

I am unable to access NAV2008 at all and in the security center at the top says nav2008 subscription or license error

I was under the impression that 5 user (ie higher than 3 user) versions were Enterprise versions and they are not dealt with here.

I saw a statement in a message that said something like:

For corporate edition products please visit the STN forums at http://forums.symantec.com

If I'm wrong please post here about this and I'm sure that a Norton Staffer can point you in the right direction -- just be patient over the weekend since although they are here there are not so many of them and there are more messages!

Enterprise edition starts at 10 users.  Dont worry I have learned patience in dealing with this company quickly.  On the other hand try running your office computer with no Anti Virus protection how patient would you be?

Hello marrsinc,

I'm sorry to learn of the problems your experiencing and appreciate the frustration it has caused. The symptoms your describe lead me to believe that you have a licensing issue. If it is a problem is with the client itself, this document contains a utility that should help resolve that problem.

If the problem continues, I think that you might be able to identify an error message by checking the error log. Here's how to check:

1. Within the program, click the Norton Internet Security tab
2. Open the Reports and Statistics section
3. Click "View Activity Log".
4. At the bottom will be an Error Messages section.

If you can relay to us what you see there I think it will help us figure out what's happening.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,

Thanks so much for taking time to help.  Tried that download already no help and I guess I am not making this clear while the 2008 tab shows on my security center it has a big red x on it.  when i click it I am unable to access any features including the reports you asked for.  It just tells me to uninstall and reinstall to fix my product .. done it 5 times so far.  Tech support also wanted me to use features of the 2008 tab I could never make them understand.

I  paid for and dowloaded the 5 user NAV2008  installed and on the security page there is a message at top that there is  a problem with license or subscription.  When clicking on NAV tab it says to uninstall.  Did it no help.  7 days of emails with support no help.  I now have a business pc with no virus protection,  tech support is useless, I even tried the  professional install 39.99 option and had to hang up after 40 minute wait.  I have been a norton customer for 10 years.  After searching I have found threads with people having same problem and symantec has been unable to resolve.  This forum is my last hope.  Have I wasted 129.00?  I am very dissapointed in the product and the support.

Have you tried contacting support?

They are the best place to solve this the easy way

Stu,

If you read my original post I have a string of emails going back and forth from support.  This has been by biggest dissapointment so far.  While they have been polite the solutions were scripted answers that were no use at all.  I highly doubt that I have delt with a support technician yet.  Actually they had the support manager contact me and it was funny his solutions were the same word for word.  They need to give the manager a different script.  I am hoping tomorrow that someone at symantec will see this and help me.

<< Enterprise edition starts at 10 users. >>

That's intriguing. I was looking a couple of days ago on the Symantec Web site for multiple user versions of NIS greater than 3 user which is common and could not find them. Could you give me a link to a page with the details since someone here has been asking about them.

As you can see Matt has jumped in. Just be patient if he asks questions you have been asked before by a user since often the Staffers have background that we do not.

If you have tracking numbers on any of your previous contacts with Norton support and give them to him that does enable Norton to find out what went wrong and put it right.

Try dealing with thousands of user messages in on-line support and you too learn patience ....... <s>

I'm sorry that we're having a hard time understanding the problem. Perhaps you can post a screenshot of the error you're seeing, so we can get a clearer idea of the problem? Click HERE for instructions for linking to images. Thanks!

I am having the same error after installing NIS 2008 10 User on one PC. The Norton icon on the system tray shows a red X and when I open the the Norton Protection Center window it indicates that NIS has a license or subscription problem and I should reinstall.

After some investigation I found that this only occurs when I open a user session that does not have Administrator authority. ie. It is a "Limited Account". If I change the account type to Administrator then log off and back on to the account then I get the green check.

I had a similar problem with NIS 2007, except that it would always give two error messages when starting up in a "Limited Account", and no errors when opening an Administrator Account.

I need to be able to have an Administrator account on my PCs and "Limited Accounts" for users. Please advise.

Hi John Z,

Can you check one of the systems against 2009 and see if that addresses the problem with limited accounts? You can obtain it here.

Thanks,

Matt

Thanks for the quick response Matt.

I am downloading the 2009 version now and will try it out tonight or in the morning.

John

Looks good Matt,

I installed NIS09EN on two of our laptops which were exhibiting slightly different symptoms for the "Limited Accounts". These accounts now show the green check mark for Norton and I have seen no other problems with the 09 version. It installed very well on both laptops, handled the activation process properly and I like the new status window. Good job.

Can I proceed with installing this version on my other 8 PCs under our 10 user license?

John

I can't speak for Matt, but the way subscriptions to AV work, you are entitled to whatever upgrades come along for the duration of your license.  The upgrade should pick up and use the same key that applies to the version currently on the computer -- in other words, if you have an up-to-date license for NIS 2008 on the machine, you shouldn't even be asked to enter a key when you use NIS 2009.

Good luck,

I need an answer from Matt because I don’t know if the version he provided is for general release/use, or is a test version to resolve the reported problems. It did handle the activations properly as you suggested.

Right-click on the installation file.  Choose properties.  If the version ends with 125, you have the same retail version just released for everyone.
