NAV 2009 install: Script errors when attempting to login to myNortonAccount

If this is an incomplete question, I'll apologize for it in advance.

I've been experimenting with re-installing NAV 2009 for the oddball reason that I'm experimenting to see what parts of my old NSW 2005 can be kept with NAV 2009.  (Time for a different thread----but I think the old and new "live update"s sword fight and bicker like old women).

The problem I have here though (devoid of NSW being present) is that during the installation I get script errors.  I think it's the buried part of IE that is kicking out the errors.  This happens on both my machines (one is NAV 2009, other is NIS 2009).

I don't have the screen shot on this machine, but I'll go get it soon.  Is this a common thing?  I'm not even sure how I manage to install----some combination of multiple "ignore scripts on page" and "remind me later"s.

Hi tgm1024,

The following programs can be installed with Norton AntiVirus/Internet Security 2009:

  • Norton SystemWorks
  • Norton Ghost
  • Norton Save & Restore
  • pcAnywhere
  • Norton GoBack 4.0

If you have Norton AntiVirus 2005 as a part of your NSW 2005(if you have NSW 2005 Premier Edition), then you need to remove it before installing NIS/NAV 2009. All the other components of NSW 2005 can work along with NIS/NAV 2009. I am not sure of the exact cause for the script error as you have not posted the exact error message. But, it may happen due to the following reasons:

1. Damaged Windows Script files associated with NSW 2005.

2. Due to compatability issues with Internet Explorer(not sure which version you are using).

3. Due to the conflicting Microsoft patch 818529 in Windows XP. (You may need to uninstall this patch if you have it)

Try re-installing the Windows Script Files, refer to this LINK for further instructions.

You can also try the following the steps to ignore the error:

1. Start Internet Explorer.

2. Click Tools > Internet Options.

3. Under Advanced tab, uncheck Disable Script Debugging and Display a notification for every script error.

4. Click Apply > OK.

5. Close Internet Explorer.

Oye.  Confusion between two concurrent issues.

I could get NSW-05-NU working with NAV 2009 but not NSW-05-Ghost, (didn't try others).  It always complained about not being able to connect to some service it needs.  .......why is it necessary for all utilities these days to make use of 6 or more of their own services?  What ever happened to the good ol' stand-alone .exe with little more than DLL's?

What version of Ghost are you using? Maybe the newer Live Update version cause you some trouble.

As I know LU versions (before the one which came with the 2009 version, I think it's version 4.0) overwrites the previous ones, and the one you have with the newer Ghost (probably 3.x) is incompatible with the 2005 products.

But this is just a guess, we need the exact error you get to solve it....

The ghost is from NSW 2005.  Don't know the internal version number because, alas, it is removed from my system.  :-/

I was trying to do this: NU-2005 + Ghost-2005 + NAV 2009

The Ghost-2005 couldn't connect to some service it needed.

tgm1024, what version of IE are you using? IE 8 currently isn’t supported but IE 6 and IE 7 should be working without error.

I have the same problem as tgm1024 - script error when attempting to login to my Norton Account with NIS 2009. So I hope it is o.k. when I post the details here in the same thread. Maybe a solution can be found for both of us.

Here the details:

- The problem appears when I open Norton Internet Security and click on "Norton Account"

- The window with the script error says (I hope my translation into English is correct):

-- Line: 61

-- Char: 1

-- Error: Object expected

-- Code:0

-- URL: https:// www. mynortonaccount.com/amse/ ...

My Norton:

Norton Internet Security 2009 (Version 16.2.0.7)

- My browsers:

-- Firefox (used as standard browser), Version 3.0.5

-- Internet Explorer 7, Version 7.0.5730.11

- My OS:

Windows XP Home (with SP 3 and all other updates)

What I tried until now (without success):

- Installing NIS 2009 two times, the first time after removing the previous version (NIS 2008) by using the software list of windows, the second time after using the Norton Removal Tool.

- I unchecked "Disable Script Debugging" and "Display a notification for every script error" in the Internet Options of the Internet Explorer, as described by yogesh_mohan in his posting.

The only thing I did not try until now was the suggestion to uninstall a Microsoft patch for Windows XP and to reinstall the Windows Script Files. I would not like to change something in Windows (as it works completely fine) because of a problem that is obviously caused by Norton. So perhaps there are some more ideas for a solution?

Thanks in advance for your help.
