I downloaded NAV 2009 (sigh) and uninstalled NAV 2008 last night and now when I try to use Microsoft Outlook (part of Office 2007) I get this message:
Task 'mail.(whatever).com - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).' for both of my email accounts.
I uninstalled and reinstalled NAV 2009 and Outlook worked correctly once, but as of this morning isn't again. I'd just reinstall 2008, but I can't find it on my computer. :-(
Any help is appreciated.
I bought NAV 2008 (I’ve had Norton for a couple of years) through the Norton website and downloaded it a couple of months ago. Got the prompt to upgrade to 2009 FREE! so did and, of course, in the process uninstalled 2008. I can’t find the old 2008 install in my computer. I do have the product key and record on Norton’s website that I bought the 2008 product. If 2009 will allow my Outlook to function, I’m fine, but having to disable it when I want to check my email seems to defeat the purpose of having it.
Hello,
good to hear that you will gibe NAV2009 a try. Here's a way which will solve you issue.
First be sure you uninstalled NAV 2008 correctly- to be sure use the Norton Removal Tool (HERE)
After that reboot your PC and install NAV 2009.
If the problem persists open Outlook and try the diagnosys via ? (Outlook Menu).
Let's see if this solve your issue.

What version of Windows are you using?
However the message you are getting may not be related to the presence of NAV. I've been having problems with my ISP (cable connection with RoadRunner) involving extremely slow downloads (slower than my old V92 modem) and was getting timeouts and the message that you quote when using Outlook Express under XP and under VISTA (I have a dual booted system). Yes I know Outlook and Outlook Express are not the same and I'm assuming you do mean Outlook and not Outlook Express.
I had the RoadRunner Techie in on Friday and after checking he replaced my cable modem and the download speed went from 400 to 6000 kbps! And no sign of the error message.
Also it is known that the AntiSpam element of NIS2009 (NAV also?) does not integrate as fully under VISTA as it does under XP so that's one reason why I ask what you have.
Here a couple of websites I've used, at the suggestion of RoadRunner, to check download speeds so you might like to try them:

Hope that helps.
Yes, it’s Outlook running on Windows XP Home. The only changed thing is when I upgraded to NAV 2009 and Outlook immediately couldn’t receive email.
Hi,
The same thing happened to me shortly after installing NIS 2009 so the same method may work for NAV 2009. As I had over 250 days left on NIS 2008, I downloaded the 2009 update which 1st removed NIS 2008 which was OK by me. Somehow, I fumbled my way through the Outlook problem to a conclusion. First, I used Outlook's 2007account repair feature which failed. I then hit F9 a few times to have it attempt to connect and download emails that I knew were there. My ISP then requested that I manually enter my password due to the numerous attempts to log in. Once that happened (Verizon), everything has worked perfectly since then.

Sounds like softwaretogo's message might give a clue -- I tried various Repair functions in the networking utiltities in XP (VISTA's are easier to find and use).
So try powering down your cable modem and restarting it to reset it; maybe try ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew on the command line ... ?
NAV 2009 does not have a firewall. As a result, when you uninstall NAV 2008, and install NAV 2009, default Windows Firewall will be turned on. It's possible that Windows ICF (Internet Connection Firewall) is blocking your Outlook.
Try start->Control Panel->Security Center, and see if Windows Firewall is on. If so, click the Windows Firewall icon under Manage Security Settings, then click Exceptions tab, click Add a Program button, browse for Outlook.exe (typically in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12), click Open, then click OK. This will add a permit rule for your Outlook in ICF and hopefully solves your problem.

Hi Cweaver
Can you explain what you mean when you say " I'd just reinstall 2008, but I can't find it on my computer."
Thanks
