NAV 2009 scan not running

Hi,

 

I'm having exactly the same problem as others. The scan simply hangs on 'scanning commonly infected areas....' and showing zero items scanned.

The little pop-up box bottom right of my screen is showing 'trojan horse' detected, but clicking 'fix' has the same result as above - a hung scan.

 

I tried downloading the malwarebites ant-malware as suggested by the second poster, but, like the other posters, it simply won't run, either in safe mode or in normal mode.

 

I did look at the 'combofix' website, but it looks a bit dangerous & scary as I have no real technical knowledge.

 

Any advice please? My newly renewed Norton Anti-Virus 2009 is currently useless.
