NAV 2010: Can't send or receive mail with Outlook Express

Hello. I've been using NAV 2010 for awhile with no problems. Today, my Outlook Express mail client couldn't send or receive e-mails. I got the following error messages:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'XXXX XXX', Server: 'pop-server.socal.rr.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'XXXX XXX', Server:
'smtp-server.socal.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

After checking a few other things, I disabled the Email Protection on NAV 2010 to see what would happen. That fixed the problem on OE. I could now send and receive e-mail. I then reenabled Email protection and the problem came back. I have it disabled now so I can use my e-mail. I would like to have the protection turned on if possible. I'm wondering if there is anything that can be done to get OE working when the NAV Email protection is enabled. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the Norton Users Discussion Forum

Have you checked with your ISP to see if they have changed ports that they use to send and receive emails.? Does your web mail program work ok? Norton only checks emails that use the standard email ports..

Thanks for the welcome.

Yep, I've already checked that. The SMTP port is still 25 and the POP3 port is still 110. Like I said before, when I disable the NAV Email Protection, my Outlook Express e-mail works just fine. And before yesterday, it did work fine with the Email Protection enabled. I'm thinking that a recent NAV liveupdate has caused the problem. I'm wondering if there is some kind of Norton workaround or solution so I can use OE with the NAV Email Protection enabled.

Buzz_Off,

I haven't heard of reports about this particular issue. The error code is kind of surprising. Have you tried rebooting your system to see if the problem goes away? If the error doesn't go away, do you have a NAV icon in the system tray? Can you provide the full product version number that can be found Support->About?

Reese, I agree that it's a strange problem. The version is 17.7.0.12. Rebooting doesn't fix the problem. Yesterday, I did pretty much everything that I could think of to fix the problem. That included deleting my mail accounts in OE and then reestablishing them. Same problem. Disabling the NAV Email Protection fixes the problem. I don't want to leave the protection disabled. But I have no other choice if I want my e-mail to work.

Vineeth, thanks for the links. There was a sentence in the first link that helped me to fix the problem. The sentence was:

"You can also receive this error message when you have antivirus e-mail protection or personal firewall software enabled on your computer."

I have ZoneAlarm as my firewall. So I disabled it and enabled the NAV Email Protection to see what happens. Lo and behold, with the ZoneAlarm disabled, my e-mail problem was fixed! So I enabled ZoneAlarm and did a bit of reconfiguring on it. Now all is well. The NAV Email Protection is enabled and my e-mail problem is fixed.

Thanks to you and everyone else who responded to help me out. I appreciate it.

Hello Buzz_Off

I'm glad you got your problem solved. Could you please mark the post which gave you the answer sp that we will all know that it has been solved. Others will be able to find the solution also. Thanks.

Hi Buzz_Off,

Would you mind moving the solution for this thread to a different post? My opinion is that your post here was the correct solution.

The solution as currently marked indicates that the final solution was to disable NAV email protection which was not the final solution.

Changing the solution will help other users with a similar problem.

You can move solution by first clicking Options > Not the Solution on the post which is currently marked as the solution. You can then click on Accept As Solution on a different post.

Thanks very much.

Best wishes.

I often   solved my OE problems with the help different programs. And one day I was in   a hole and no one of tools couldn't help me. I entered the Google and started   looking for the resolution. I was lucky - problems outlook express. It settled my problem within a minute and utterly free   of cost as far as I remembered.
