I have some questions related to "full system scans", "custom scans" of selected drives and "scan exclusions" in the settings menu. This is what NAV 2010 Classic says about scans: 1) Full System Scan: Checks all boot records, files, and running processes to which the user has access. 2) Drive Scan: Scans the removable drives or any drives on your computer. You can select multiple drives to add to the scan.
Questions # 1: I ran a FULL system scan and it seems to me that EVERYTHING was scanned regardless of my exclusions. Is this correct? My scan exclusions included system volume information, thunderbird mail folders AND drive L:, a 1TB USB drive with backup files (partly image) and JPG photos. Here are the full scan results:
Full Scan (L: was excluded) Scan Stats:
Scan Time: 33340 seconds
Scan Options:
Scan Targets: C:\, D:\, E:\, F:\, G:\, H:\, I:\, L:\
Counts:
Total items scanned: 1,549,992
- Files & Directories: 1,546,301
- Registry Entries: 302
- Processes & Start-up Items: 3,307
- Network & Browser Items: 76
- Other: 5
- Trusted Files: 2,111
- Skipped Files: 172
p.s. if, for example, Thunderbird's mail folders are scanned regardless of the exclusion, that may spell trouble one day...
Questions # 2: presumably, when I run a CUSTOM scan of selected drives, only those drives are scanned and exclusions are considered. Yes/no? Looking at the scan results, only 3 drives, the ones I selected were scanned. Judging from the difference in the number of files, compared to the full scan, it seems okay. But I don't know. And how can I be sure that exclusions are really excluded? Here are the custom scan results:
Scan Stats:
Scan Time: 23209 seconds
Scan Options:
Scan Targets: C:\, E:\, F:\
Counts:
Total items scanned: 1,472,228
- Files & Directories: 1,472,228
- Registry Entries: 0
- Processes & Start-up Items: 0
- Network & Browser Items: 0
- Other: 0
- Trusted Files: 1,400
- Skipped Files: 1
Question # 3: can I set up a CUSTOM scan of the 3 drives selected, PLUS the scanning of registry entries, processes and browser items, like what was included in the full scan?
Question # 4: can I exclude scanning of compressed files in the CUSTOM drive scan even though compressed file scanning is set to ON in the settings menu? If yes, how? I have checked the scan command line switches and found no solution.
Thanks!
