NAV 2010 LiveUpdate Issue

I run NAV 2010 on my WinXP Pro laptop.  At times, the laptop may be turned off for a few days (4 - 5 days tops).  When I turn it on, I get a message saying the definitions, etc. are out of date.  Windows also reports that my virus software is turned off.

Instead of NAV going out and downloading the needed updates, NAV puts up a screen that says there is a problem and I need to use the Intelligent Updater.  I have done this several times and things appear to be restored to working order.  To be clear, all automatic updates, incl. pulse updates are turned on.  This is a fresh installation of NAV 2010 - previous version was removed using Norton's Removal Tool - wanted to make sure that everything was gone prior to installation.

Is this behavior normal?  I think not.  FYI, I have several other WinXP Pro machines running NAV 2010 and they seem to take care of their updates correctly after being off for a few days - all done in the background.  Please help, I have already spent a lot of time on this issue - including several chat sessions with tech. support.
