I am also having this problem. It started about two weeks ago, I hadn't had any previous threats and I keep my definitions up to date. I tyipaclly leave my computer on over night, that particular night I decided to shut it down to give it a break. Upon turning it on Norton AntiVirus 2010 took forever to load, and when it did load it had an red "X" over it on my start bar. I opened it up and it said that all the protection was turned off. I contacted the live support, they took over my computer, reinstalled Norton and everything seemed good, that was until I rebooted my machine.
Since then I have had the Online Chat Support reinstall Norton 3 times and every time after a reboot it turns off. I contacted them again last night, which after about a 30 second glance (one the tech was connected to my machine) told me that I had a virus. He said he would transfer my case to a virus specialist and that they would be able to help me. The specialist asked all sorts of question mainly had any warnings been popping up in the last couple of day with warnings or alerts. Now as I told them, I have not seen any evidence of anything out of the ordinary besides the fact that Norton is not working. (This part I must add because it ticked me off)
The lady helping me said that she had no evidice that I had a virus but that she wasn't the best to handle the problem so..she said that for a small fee (which I might add is not small at all $99 bucks) the the profetionals would be able to determain the best corse of action and handle it. I told her that I was not willing to do such a thing because I wasn't going to pay for a service for I hadn't seen anything that would leave me to believe that i have a virus. She her self said that she didn't find a virus. She kept hounding and pleading that I should use their service..I said no
Now. After that event, I Uninstalled Norton and reinstalled it, Updated, Scanned my who computer and found nothing but Tracking cookies, 14 to be exact. I removed them. Rebooted and bam, it shut itself off again.
I am running Windows XP and I have 211 day's left on my Norton AntiVirus 2010 v. 17.5.0.127
Please Help.
