NAV 2011 LiveUpdate Restart Required - Repeatedly

Hi,

I've got two systems, both running Windows XP SP3 with Norton AntiVirus 2011 since last fall.  This past week one of the systems (the desktop, which is really just a print server) started putting up a pop-up for Norton LiveUpdate stating that a restart was required.  Regardless of the number of times the system has been rebooted, this pop-up continues to appear.  I used the tools at the Symantec site to verify that the latest updates have been applied.

How do I get the NAV settings updated to recognize that there is no update pending and a reboot is not required?

Thanks,

Kevin

Soemthing must have mixed up your update status.

What you can do first :

go to NAV mains screen and start the automated support procedure :

- Click on Support in the right hand upper corner.

- Click there on Get Support on the second line (i have the Dutch version, so do not know the exact wording)

- Now the automated support window comes up and this will check your system status and eventually correct it, if there's a problem. This is a guided procedure, where you sometimes have to click through or make choice.

If there's no error found or the error cannot be corrected, you are guided to support, either a chat session with support or some online advice to correct your problem yourself.

Let;s hear if you solved the problem and how.

We are here to help you further, if nothing helps.

I have this problem on one of PCs too. It is also the Windows XP SP3 OS , though I see there are others posting about the same problem on the other Windows OSs. I contacted Symantec Tech Support by e-mail and their answer was uninstall, run their remover program, and reinstall. Of course you also have to reinstall any other Norton/Symantec programs you have running on that PC. It is apparent to me that there is something wrong with this recent update that is making it fail on various PCs across different OSs and Symantec Engineering needs to fix this problem, and either update the affected PCs via liveupdate or provide a patch to fix those PCs. This uninstalling and reinstalling of NIS at least once for every version is getting real old!  :(

I've been having this issue as well for almost a month and tried the suggestions mentioned in this thread. No matter how many times I reboot Norton LiveUpdate still says I need to reboot. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit SP1.

Symantec Support suggested to me that I do an online support session and let a tech look at my pc via a remote connection. I assume the tech will end up uninstalling and reinstalling the software anyway (and then I'll get to spend some time running liveupdate until the program catches up with all the latest updates). I haven't had the time to do that (which is one of the reasons I'm unhappy at the moment) and really I don't think I should have to spend part of my life dealing with issues like this after I pay a company for their software. I think this is a glitch that Symantec ought to be able to correct with a patch or something via liveupdate.

No sign of a solution yet.  It's a nuisance to have to manually tell it to remind me in 24 hours because there's no other option.  I ran the diagnostic tools and submitted the log files back when this was first posted.  Hopefully there will be an update soon.

Do you have any other Symantec products installed in your computer such as Symantec EndPoint protection?

Vineeth

Nope, no other Symantec products running on my PC.

Which is your Graphics Card?  Is that an ATI one?

Can you please post a screenshot of the message that you receive when you start the computer?

I am having the same problem, the desktop is running Vista 32 bit Home Basic Service Pack 2. Any solution yet ?

I gave up on waiting for a patch or liveupdate that I doubt is ever coming and downloaded the Norton Removal tool, uninstalled my Norton System Works and then ran the removal tool. I renistalled NIS and it worked fine (then I had to remove it again because I didn't reinstall NSW first). A big pain in the neck for something that either shouldn't have happened in the first place or that there should have been a way to repair/patch NIS when these glitches started to show up on  some percentage of the user base (I can see the requirement for Uninstalling/Reinstalling for glitches that happen to individuals, but when it is obvious this was happening to multiple users on different Operating Systems then it had to be an issue created by something in that set of updates which Symantec should be able to correct).

Hi rmoore,

Please let us know the make and model of your Graphics Card. Also, please post a screenshot of the error message that you receive.

Thanks!
