NAV "Firewall" question

It seems that Symantec is removing features from NAV (while not bothering to drop the price).  One is the firewall.  While older versions of NAV had a firewall, Symantec has removed it from the last version or two.  They do have something in the system call Intrusion Prevention that seems to do some sort of firewall-like job, but if you look at their product comparisons, they say a firewall is not in NAV.  When I happened to find Norton 360 V2.0 free after rebates, I bought it, but after reading the consumer reviews (averaging 2 out of 5 at PCMag, CNet, and Amazon) and realizing it is not very configurable, I’ve decided to return it.  I’m hesitant about NIS, also.  A networking expert friend of mine feels the security suite tools are way too intrusive and mess up your system in a lot of ways.  He uses an AV product, sits behind a hardware firewall, and uses good sense about sites he visits and attachments he opens, a policy that I adhere to also and that has kept me virus-, malware-, and spyware-free for years.  But when I’m traveling, a software firewall would make me more comfortable.  I’m thinking of using Zone Alarm for that job.  Is anyone else using NAV with a separate firewall?  If so, what might that product be and how are you liking it?
