NAV10 cleaned USB drive, required reboot, USB no longer connecting to WinXP

I suspect I have missed the run once opportunity to finish a virus clean on a USB drive, the virus clean required a reboot. I did not want my USB drive to assume the boot drive device so I disconnected it during the reboot, plugged it in after reboot, but now it is not recognized by WinXP SP3.   Repeated attempts to reboot with and without the USB drive plugged in all result in USB drive not being recognized by WinXP.   How do I fix this ?
