I hope ya'll are as confused as I am with the title I used.
Here goes, I purchased NIS 2010 on line from the Norton site and followed the instructions to make an ISO copy of the NBRT. Itis version 3.0.0.66. I have of course upgraded to NIS 2011 (18.6.0.29).
Now on my newer Win 7 system I am running NSS version 5.1.0.29 and was sitting here fat, dumb and happy knowing I had the NBRT from my NIS 2010 handy. Then someone asked a question on the Comcast Forum about the NBRT for NSS. I'm thinking the NBRT is not different for different Norton porducts. But being curious I went ahead and did the "burn" a cd/dvd NBRT from my NSS install. Low and behold, I now have a CD with an ISO version 3.0.0.66 from NIS and a DVD with a version 3.5.0.23 from NSS.
I also noticed when I burned the DVD from my NSS that there was an option for the use of a USB an that the USB had the ability to have the definitions updated (on the USB).
So being an ol' fart and not totally understanding the entire procedure, I have some questions:
- Could I in fact use either cd or dvd on either of my Norton products?
- Do I have to burn an updated cd/dvd from time to time and when will I know that I must do that - especially if I do not frequent the Norton forums to keep up to dateon the latest news?
- Would I be better off using a USB devie so I can update just the defs from time to time.
- Will the cd/dvd update the defs before running it, even if I do not have the most curent version?
Any help will be appreciated and I thank you in advance for it.
BTW - if I missed this info being available somewhere - just point me in the correct direction and I'll be glad to research it on my own.
