I downloaded the latest NBRT iso and burned to thumbdrive without any problem.
I set bios to legacy boot and see the NBRT boot choice of booting normally, booting with base video, or adding other boot options.
If I boot normally the system hangs,
If I boot with base video, NBRT loads but kernel panics when trying to download updates.
I have never gotten far enough to even try a scan.
I have no ideas what to do next and there is virtually no debugging / troubleshooting information or any info how to add drivers (lan or disk).
I opened a norton chat session that was comical. The "technician" (and I use that term very generously) who wanted to remote into my my machine. I tried to explain to him that the bootable CD was crashing, not windows, and he cant remote in after NBRT crashes, but this concept was far beyond his skill set.
Can I get some suggestions how to debug this and/or how to add drivers?
Is it possible to go back to the Windows PE version? That one worked and was easy to customize.
So much for a "promised" call back within 24 hours. Dunno why I even tried.
Okay, just got off the phone with them. He understood what I was trying to get across but since I did not have the computer in front of me to "troubleshoot", he was unable to help me and refused to escalate to 2nd tier support. I told him to pretend I did and asked what he'd do knowing that both options caused a kernel panic, and he said he would try to "change the boot options". I laughed and asked for him to send me to tier2, which he refused. I then asked to speak to his supervisor, but apparently he was going to be "on calls for a long time" and there was apparently no other supervisors available either. He "promised" a call back within 24 hours. My case # is in case it helps....
I am running into the same issue not only with NBRT but the Trendmicro Rescue Disk as well. Both of these use Linux with their software installed on the top of it. I believe that it has to do with the new Kaby Lake CPUs and not providing support for them. I tested both of these tools on multiple computers running different generations of CPUs and they all work just fine. It only panics on Kaby Lake systems. Is yours one of these? Trendmicro gave me the run around and I am about to give Norton a call but I don't have high hopes ( as you had the same experience ).
