Hi, I've seen this problem in previous posts and haven't yet seen a solution for it. Now I have it:
I can't get my Windows XP SP 3 desktop computer, a Dell XPS 410 to boot from the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool disk I made by creating an iso file and burning it to a CD. I created the iso and burned it to disk because I could not get the NBRT to burn a disk directly nor would it create a bootable set of files on a USB key.
I downloaded the NBRT from here: http://security.symantec.com/nbrt/overview.aspx?lcid=1033, so I know it is the latest version.
I am using Norton Internet Security 2011, version 18.6.0.29 and when I check for new version, I get a message that this is the latest version, also.
In order to boot from my CD drive which is an on board Sony CDRWDVD CRX3105, I have to press F12 during boot and select the option to boot from it. After I do that I get the message to "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD drive...", but when I do the OS boots from the hard drive just like always, no opportunity to scan the system or whatever.
When I first load the CD into the CD drive I get the dialog box explaining how to use it, and examining the files in Windows Explorer shows everything to be where it should be, files-wise.
There is no NBRT page file on my C drive and no other hard drive. My C drive is spread over two hard drives, but there is no separate content that I am aware of.
Thanks,
Edward
