Need a better understanding about Norton Insight - 100% scan always needed

I have read the posts in this forum about Norton Insight and how setting the performance profile to 'standard' or 'high' alleviates the 0% trusted 100% scan needed. I have my NIS 2009 set for 'standard' trust. However whenever and every time I open Norton Insight I still get the 0% trusted 100% scan needed message. As an example I just opened Norton Insight...it collected files, built database query and applied response successfully. It then update to show 12% not trusted and 88% trusted. OK..no problem. BUT when I then close Norton Insight and immediately reopen it I am right back at 0% trusted and 100% scan needed.

QUESTION:  Is this normal operation? It seems to me that it forgets what files or processes it has already trusted. Am I misunderstanding this feature?

ALSO: How can I evaluate if Norton Insight is really "speeding up my computer?"  In orther words how can I verify Norton Insight is working properly?

Thank You

Thank you Mo...after I posted this I pondered about it more and realized that it must certainly by default initiate a scan so if any of the previously 'trusted' files/processes had changed Norton would catch it.

I have had NIS2009 installed now for a couple weeks. I cannot honestly say I have noticed any kind of 'speed up' in launching apps or booting up. have you seen and noticeable speed up? I have read a lot about Norton 2009 product line and I like the Insight feature in priciple.

I would still ask others if there is some way to evaulate the effectiveness of the advertised speed up.

Hi

I don't know if this has to do with Insight and speed but when you do a scan double click on the items scanned and it has a list ,which one states items skipped because they are trusted.Sorry not to technical but hang around i'm sure someone will jump in

Thank you dieselman743 -and- Mo.  While I had previously read the info at the link Dieselman provided it was worth a re-read which served to clear up some of my misconceptions. Coupled with Mo's observations I am comfortable that I have a clear grasp of the technology used in Norton Insight (a real step forward!) and know how to evaluate Insight's effectiveness by selecting different performance profiles within NIS 2009 and observing the results.

Thanks folks!! I feel more comfortable and confident with my recent acqusition of NIS2009.  :smileywink:
