Hi Charlene1434, reboot in safe mode and see if you can run a scan with N360. go to start, restart, and tap the F8 key until you get the boot options menu, choose safe mode and hit enter. Run a full scan with N360 if you can.
Please post the log from Malwarebytes using the add attachment link below this Reply to Message box.
Also please run a HiJackThis and post that log here.
Please download HiJackThis from http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ Choose the executable and save it on your desktop. Run the file and select the first option on the main menu "Do a system scan and save a log file". When this is finished, Notepad will open with the log file in it. Save the log file and attach it to a post here via the Add Attachments Please don't attempt to fix anything that it shows until someone checks out the log. Thanks.
It looks like you are running Avast also. Two security programs running at the same time will cause problems. Avast hasn't been removed or perhaps not removed completely. I would suggest getting the Avast removal tool and runnig that a few times to properly remove avast. You also have a very old Java installed which can be a security risk also. Besides having a u torrent installed also.
However, I'm not an expert in HiJackThis logs, but did notice those things installed. I don't know if anything needs to be done with HiJackThis.
Did you try uninstall/reinstall? If not, try that first. Download Norton Removal Tool from this LINK. Run the removal tool multiple times(2-3 mins) to make sure that all components are uninstalled completely. Go to your Norton Account using this LINK and get the Product Key. You may require this same Product Key for activating the Norton program. You can use the Upgrade Center for installing Norton program you had. After installing the Norton program, run LiveUpdate repeatedly untill you see the message "No more updates" and then restart the computer. Let us know the results.
i only downloaded avast because norton is unavailable... is java a security risk?
You should have removed Norton 360 with the Norton removal tool before installing Avast. You will have to use Avast removal tool to uninstall that before you re-install Norton.
If you are concerned about Java, use noscript in firefox, I use this I also disable java in firefox addons. I only enable Java for trusted sites, and if I cant access a site that I am unsure of that uses Java I leave it alone. If you are using firefox click on tools, then addons in drop down menu, Then click on plugins and check for updates, it will chack for latest java updates for you. In latest version of firefox you can also check for updates for extentions, as well as plugins.
A very similar problem happened to my daughter at college yesterday. She is also running Vista Home Premium. She NOTICED it right after Tuesday's Microsoft security updates ran. I wonder if somehow they caused it, or is it a true virus, perhaps a trojan? In any case, she cannot run a valid scandick, either - the system skips over it on the reboot. She dowmloaded and ran Malwarebytes, but that did not seem to help. She SAYS she was able to do a System Restore back to Jan 27th, but Norton still won't open.
As you are still not able to open the product even after doing a system restore can you try uninstalling the product using the Norton removal tool and then reinstall and check for the issue.
