Need to delete NIS file fragments

I'm trying to shrink the size of my C drive in order to substitute an SSD.  I've used MyDefrag but there are 2 unmovable files/fragments which I just can't seem to get rid of.  Both seem to be related to NIS.  I've even tried uninstalling NIS in order to get rid of these without success.  Any ideas how I can either delete or move these so that I can go ahead and shrink the size of my C partition?

The following is how MyDefrag identifies the unmovable data:

LCN=90,241,552 Unmovable Bytes=344, BeginLCN=90,241,552 C:\$Secure::$ATTRIBUTE_LIST

LCN=90,240,815 Unmovable Fragments=7, Bytes=50,880 BeginLCN=90,240,815

C:\Users\Public\Downloads\Norton\{NIS19113-SHPD-FSD21017}\symcdefs.exe::$ATTRIBUTE_LIST

I've tried everything I can think of; defrag, CHKDSK, Google searches.  I don't know why NIS would have placed these and made them unmovable.  And if they're just junk, how do I go in and delete them?

Thanks.

Hi garbanzo,

Don't know if it will make a difference, but you could try defragging in Safe Mode - Norton would not be running.

Check to see if you still have a file in the following path on your PC

C:\Users\Public\Downloads\Norton\{NIS19113-SHPD-FSD21017}\symcdefs.exe

If you do, one suggestion I saw in the MyDefrag forum was to make a copy of the file with a new name. Delete the original file. Then rename the original file back to its' original name.

Then try your defrag.

For best results you should use a free partition resizing tool and do it outside of windows from a boot CD.

Gparted and partition wizzard are 2 that I use.

Otherwise, most defraggers have an "offline" defrag where you can set it to work before windows loads just like how chkdsk runs at a blue screen before windows can start.

Another thing you might want to try is disabling "norton product protection".
