Need to reword this misleading information regarding ID Safe Data

Presently there are a few links addressing ID Safe Data, Export, Import and one that says it don't have to be backed up.

I believe the information could be misleading - if a customer could  find it - or even more misleading if they found all of the information.

I suggest the following three KB's be merged/rewritten in order to have all the details in one place and written so it is understood.

Example - no need to back up since you info is on line - so someone uninstalls and loses their ID Safe Data.  It is suggested to Restore/Import their ID Saf Data and the first thing we hear is - no one said to back it up - or worse yet - the KB said it did not need to be backed up.

Is it possible to back up the Identity Safe data

Your Identity Safe vault data is stored online, and does not require you to back it up. However, you can export the Identity Safe data in .DAT or .CSV file formats on to your local computer.

I maybe nitpicking, but to say ID Safe Data does not need to be backed up is a very incorrect statement

With everything we have seen go wrong with ID Safe Data being lost when upgrading, when reinstalling, with previous server hiccups, and just my general opbservation that the less tech savvy users have no idea that Export provides a away of retrieving your ID Safe data that managed to get lost.

About exporting and importing Identity Safe data

You can export your Identity Safe data for security purposes, data recovery, or when you transfer your Identity Safe data to a new computer. The backup files are saved as .DAT files.

You can protect the files that you backed up with a password. Symantec recommends that you use a password to keep your Identity Safe data more secure. The backup password does not need to be the same as your Identity Safe password. You must provide the password when you restore the Identity Safe data that you backed up.

You can import your Identity Safe data from the file that you previously backed up. You can also import the Identity Safe data from the portable profile.

When you import the Identity Safe data you have the following options:

  • Merge the imported data in to the vault that you are currently logged in.
  • Replace the existing Identity Safe data that you stored in your vault that you are logged in with the imported data.
  • You can also delete the data once the import is complete.
