Network Drive Not Listed as Backup Option

I just downloaded the 30 day trial version of Norton 360 to try out before my Window One Care subscription runs out.  So far the program itself seems pretty decent, but  tech support is terrible.

After installation I was trying to setup the backup portion of Norton 360.  When I tried to tell Norton 360 where to backup my files I noticed that my LACIE network storage drive was not listed.  The strange thing is that Norton 360 sees this drive in the network security portion of the program but doesn't recognize it for backup purposes.

I contact tech support and sit in the que for online chat.  After about 30 min I get a guy I will call A.J. A.J. takes over my computer, AJ installs GEAR, A.J. runs some crazy DOS commands.   After about 40 minutes with no results, A.J. opens up disk manager, and tells me "You have a RAID setup. Norton 360 doesn't work with RAID".  He tells me to go back to my computer manufacturer and ask for a disk to reformat my drive to normal (non-RAID).  I am confused by his statement because, 1) I only have one hard disk and 2) how does my hard disk configuration affect my network storage?  I am not a computer guy so I can't refute his statements. We say our goodbyes.

Today, after some thinking, I decide to map my network drive to drive letter Z. Lo and behold Norton 360 recognizes my NAS and I live happily ever after.  The reason I write this is two-fold.  First hopefully others will find this solution.  Second, if Norton coporate is listening, tell your tech support that it is better to say "I don't know" then to send potential customers off on a long and frustrating wild goose chase.

Hi V00D00,

Thank you for coming on to share this. Symantec Employees do frequently monitor these forums and will hopefully see this.

I believe you will over the next few days get an email from Symantec to do a survey about your experience with technical support. Please make sure and share these concerns if/when you do get this survey request.

Sometimes Symantec employees will ask you for other details via PM (Private Message) so that they can follow up on reports like this. Please do not ever put ticket numbers or real names of tech support in the public forum. It looks like you correctly gave a fictitious name to this and that is good.

You can always recognize Symantec employees on the forums as they will be identified in red and it will say Symantec employee so that you will know it is safe to send them additional detail via PM.

I commend you for figuring out this problem. Well done! :smileyhappy:

Allen
