Network drive problems

I've had nothing but problems accessing a network drive under Norton AV 2011 (fully kept up to date)

Its not the firewall, its the Antivirus Auto Protect - if I disable this I can access the drive perfectly well. (even if firewall is still enabled)  If the Auto Protect is enabled then sometimes I can and sometimes I can't get to the drive.  The drive directories can be seen but accessing a file fails

I've adjusted all possible network settings to no avail.  No problems previously with Kaspersky.

This happens on a Vista laptop and a Win 7 desktop, exactly same symptoms.

What to do???

Hi charles99.

You can exclude the file/folder/network drive from Auto-Protect and Sonar by opening Norton -> Click on Settings at the top of Norton -> Scroll down to "Items to exclude from Auto-Protect and SONAR Detection" and click on Configure. In the windows that opens you can add whatever file / folder or drive of your choice.

I would also recommend you to upgrade to Norton 2012 as it is free and the product is better overall, you can do this on link link: http://www.norton.com/nuc

Hi

Thanks for responding, but I have tried all that. I've excluded the drive IP address, the MAC address, the mapped drive letter, the drives network name, any combination of these to no avail. I have now NAV 2012 but that hasn't helped.

The drive itself is set up OK - its accessible from a Linux set up I also run.  It also had no problem with Kaspersky which I used until about 6 months ago.

5 illegible reCAPTACHAS later I hope its posted....  administartor please note

Hey

Norton Antivirus does not have a Firewall. only Norton Internet Security (NIS) and Norton 360 (N360) have a Firewall.

what i can understand from your posts is that Nortons auto-protect is protecting you from a threat.

When you are getting this warning when accessing your network drive, what kind of threat is auto-protect protecting you from when you are getting notified by Nortons Auto-protect, you can find this under Norton History = Solved threats or Unsolved Threats. Also check that SONAR is not blocking anything when you are checkking Norton History.

try to upgrade to Norton  Antivirus 2012 and see if the problem got/is solved or not.

Are you  also getting a aleart from Nortons Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) when you are trying to connect to your network drive?

Hello

I do have NIS 2012, fully up to date, not NAV - sorry for that.

Today I could access the drive, and files are accessible with all permissions.  The strange thing is that since the last time when I had problems nothing has been changed.  This has been my experience for a while, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, the worst sort of problem to fix.  Having said that, my Kaspersky/ Win Vista and Linux experience is that the network drive always works, so I still feel this is somehow Norton related.

I'll keep investigating,

Charles
