In NIS 2008 (on an XP SP2 desktop) when viewing the network map I can still see computers which are no longer connected.

For example, I had a friend’s laptop attached to my network two days ago, yet even though that computer is no longer here it still shows up as offline but with the Device Name, IP address and Physical address listed.  The same thing occurred with my own laptop which I plugged in to download and install NIS 2008, but is now running through a wireless access point as it normally does. It’s wired IP address and Physical address still show (offline), but it also shows as online because it’s running wireless. I have not set up or used remote monitoring.

I am using a wired router and when I check in the router dialogue box for attached devices, it shows only the 3 currently connected devices. Norton is showing 5 devices, 3 online and 2 offline. Again, these two are no longer connected.

I’ve tried hitting the refresh button on the Norton Network map window, but no change. I’ve also tried unplugging the power to the router for a short period. As a third measure I also ran the Norton Autofix tool which indicated no problems.

How can I delete the references to computers that are no longer connected?

Thanks for the quick reply and thanks for the option to try out NIS2009 Beta.

But does that mean NIS 2008 does not have any option to purge old devices?

I’m not sure but it sure is one great opportunity to test 2009

Unfortunately the purge feature will only be available in NIS 2009.

But, remember that as long as your subscription remains valid you can upgrade to NIS 2009 (when released) for no charge.

Hi Phil_D

NIS 2009 includes an option to purge old devices, you will find it in the Home Network Settings section of the main settings UI (not on the Home Network Map).

Feel free to try out the NIS 2009 Beta and report issues in the NIS 2009 Beta forum.

Regards

Pieter
