Here we go again - Norton stated it had changed MY network settings when opening GUI this morning that have been working OK for best part of a month. NORTON KEEP YOU NOSE OUT OF MY SETTING & COMPTER
Hello @mgirons
is this what you see ?
Thanks for reply.
Exactly that as shown (except NDU)
Just one thing after another since Norton Auto-updated on 30th September. Settings been same since 30th September
Toggling between Private/Public button, info button always shows Public. Mind you, not clear which is ON - black or white!
Yea I get this every so often also. What is Norton doing? I have my network set to Public to make it more secure. I don’t use Print and File sharing and have my Printer set to static IP outside my dhcp range. But I keep getting this invasive popup (in a new weird Norton format) on my right side screen that is so ambiguous in it’s wording. If you didn’t know better you’d think it’s saying that your network should be set to Private to be more secure, when is not the case. Private network’s are only more trusted to allow certain processes to run that you would not dare if set to public (which means using in a public cafe etc). This type of ambiguous message is only going make Grandma more confused about her network.
But what I really hate it this new weird looking stupid format of Norton 360 popping up with an Ominous look to it making you wonder if it’s malware. And it’s untrustworthy looking [OK] button which you have to click to get this screen clutter to go away.
What happened to the old reliable sensible looking Norton?
BTW Malwarebytes has stopped requiring payment card data on registration if you purchase at a retail outlet like Amazon. There is some sanity still available.

Hello @Rose_Orr
fwiw ~ Please review: https://community.norton.com/t/norton-360-keeps-changing-my-home-network-to-public/239761/28
Note: since discussing Norton 360 v24+ with Norton support & since my Norton Chat session here…home Network is Private (Automatic Network Control → Smart Mode with Notifications)
Automatic Network Control → Smart Mode with Notifications
Caveat: discuss with Norton support (yourself) to clarify (to your satisfaction) Norton v24+ → Private v Public

fwiw ~ by my read: since discussing Norton 360 v24+ with Norton support
Norton recommends Network - Private when you’re on a Private Network (Full Trust in v22 here)
Norton recommends Network - Public when you’re on a Public Network
(regardless, Windows recommends)
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v20240108181338560
Current installed version 25.7.10308 - build 945. No matter what option of the three selected Norton every now & then states i’m on PUBLIC, Windows always states i’m on PRIVATE - why can’t Norton get this correct?
fwiw ~ I’m always Automatic Network Control → Smart Mode with Notifications
I’ve not tested Smart Mode nor Windows Settings Mode
Prior to my recent Norton support Chat discussion re Norton 360 v24+ Private v Public
I’d been opting Norton Network Public to match Windows Public network (Recommended)
and now: Windows Private network matches Norton Network Private
Note: at home…I’m always WiFi and seldom call Norton 360 VPN and print via wired & WiFi printer.
Trid all 3 options - makes no difference. It appears I also can access perhaps to a near six networks wher I assume these networks are not protected from using their network by the users - they all show as PUBLIC
I’ll try setting all to Private - used to have only a couple of outsiders - knew who they were - couple months had an upgraded router hub - looks as may have extended wi-fi range.
This is elementary!! Norton needs to fix this and leave it alone. Months on end of workarounds then one small thing changes somewhere else in the program just throws that all into the rubbish can. I mean, its simple. Stop with the user based telemetry and test/FIX in house already. Then distribute. Norton taking full control over what network you can use and what specific trust level is BS.
