My Internet Security subscription is about to expire. I am considering 360. I have an old copy of Utilities (3 years). Is there overlap between 360 and Utilities. If I install 360 do I need Utilities?

Hello JohnLumb
Here is a page that compares N360 and the current version of Utilities
http://www.symantec.com/norton/norton-utilities
I don't know what was in that old version of Utilities that you have. I also don't know what operating system and service pack you are using. There may be some overlapping of the products, but you can compare the 2 current versions on that page. I have heard that there is less tweaking of the program that you can do with N360.

360 has some basic functions from Norton Utilities. These are:
- Defragmentation
- File cleanup: temp folders
- Internet cleanup
- Registry clean up
If you have an old version of Norton Utilities, I assume that it is the one that is only compatible with Windows XP.
If you run Windows Vista or 7, the old Utilities will have some error on the new OS, plus if you run eg. Registry scan/cleanup in the old Utilities, it can do more harm then good as it simply do not what can and can't delete.
Thanks both of you. I'm running Win7 and I think I checked for compatability and updates on IE10 when I got my new computer. I didn't do anything to Utilities but I'm sure some of it was updated because sometime last year the registry cleaner suddenly looked a lot like Registry Mechanic which I had used for 2-3 years.
My experience for the past three years has been that IS and Utilities play well together. I was concerned that any overlap of 360 and Utilities might require uninstalling or disabling some features of Utilities.
Maybe I'll play it safe, stick with IS, and consider buying a new copy of Utilities.

PapuaZ,
At the bottom of your reply as a brief summary of your computer and software. Where do you enter that in your profile. This is a good deal because it eliminates questions like "What OS are you using?" or "How much ram are you using?"
