New install NIS--Definitions are old, but icon and GUI indicates up to date

Using Windows XP, I just installed NIS 2011 on a computer that previously had NAV 11. I first completely removed NAV 11, and ran the NRT to be sure things were cleaned up. The new NIS installation was done offline from a downloaded installation file 18.6.0.29 dated last April, so the definitions were some 130 days old or so. I noticed when the new tray icon appeared it had a green check mark on it, and when I opened the GUI, it said “secure”–even though it said LiveUpdate was last run 130 days ago. I also checked the Windows Security Center, and it was showing that NIS was reporting that it was functioning and “up to date.” I had expected that the tray icon would have red or orange on it (due to out-of-date definitions) and the GUI would say “Fix It Now”. So I’m curious why the icon and GUI are indicating that it is up to date, i.e., “secure”, when I haven’t yet run LiveUpdate or activated yet, since I’m not ready to go online yet. Thanks for any info.
