New install

I just purchased the physical version of NIS 2014 on amazon, when I install on my computer do I use the new product key or the previous product key? I alreadly have an account on norton for NIS with automatic renewal.

The current one I have expires Feb of next year, but since I have been having problems updating, I brought a fresh one to install on my computer. So If I enter the new key next week will it be good for a year?

Don't activate with your new key.

Your countdown will begin as soon as you activate your key.  You could of just used the Norton Remove & Reinstall Tool to uninstall your current copy and download and install a fresh new copy free of charge and it would not affect your license.

If you keep the key until next year you will be able to use it then.

I tried the uninstall and reinstall option, but sadly since i'm on dialup it has been a task. I think at this point for now it's best that I just buy a physical copy (until I get a new computer) so when I install it next week use the key that is in my norton account krusty?

Yeah, you should use that key in your Norton account.  Next year you will be able to use your new key, but as Yank mentioned, you should turn off auto renew before then or your will be charged again.

Thank you guys for your help !

Mel, if you're installing NIS on a new machine you may need to remove the license from your old machine first.

What you can do is to sign in to https://manage.norton.com/ with your Norton Account details and go to the My Account > Product Details. Click on your current subscription. You will see your current installations and by clicking the trash can icon next to the old PC it will disable the protection on that PC and free up an activation to use on the new one.

Customer Support can help if you run in to troubles. They can be contacted at http://www.norton.com/chat. Live Chat is often the quickest.

If the new PC comes pre-installed with a trial security program it will need to be thoroughly removed by using that programs removal tool before you install NIS. Uninstalling from Windows Control Panel isn't always enough. If you can tell us which security program the new PC comes with we can give you a link to the removal tool.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks,
Dave

I'm installing it on the current computer i'm using.(PC) But I will keep that in mind for the future when I buy a Laptop, I will most likely stick with Norton.
