I used to have the same problem with Mcafee which was ridiuclous trying to connect home. I was told by a Norton CSR that if I turned all the auto-up-dates off, that Norton would remain quiet. I like to know what/& when something is trying to connect out from my computers, so I manually update everything. However this doesn't appear to be the case with Norton as this ccSVCHst is trying to connect out thru DNS way too often & it makes me uncomfortable. I came over to Norton from KAV, & KAV was a little annoying in that it sometimes tried to connect home, but not anywhere close to what I've been seeing from NAV. Is there any way to make this ccSvcHst quiet? It appears that turning the Auto update feature doesn't do much. Thx
Also what exactly it the function of this Norton IPS add-on in FX 3.6. If it's nothing but another tag-along toolbar & it has no AV/AS functionality, then I'll leave it non-functional. BTW, updating your AV defs doesn't fix it's functionality as posted at the top of this forum, as I've auto-updated the Defs twice & there's no change in it being accepted by FX 3.6, & it's not showing up in the 3.5 portable version.
& also, I keep several OS images BU externally. Is there any way to save the NAV defs to a separate partition, so if/when I need to reinstall the OS c Norton from the BU image, that I can reload the AV defs from file? Exact OS, exact same Norton on the exact same computer. If so where are they?
& one more. It appears NAV won't update from an LUA. Can you somehow save the auto-update files from the LUA temp files and then update NAV manually from an Admin Acct after logging off from the LUA?
