This lists every password I've ever used, including some from over ten years ago. It tells me which are weak, strong etc but the "Action Now" button will not let me delete the entry.
It also includes my current on-line banking, where the actual password is not input on the home page but only displayed after some security questions have been answered. Again, I would like to delete this.
As it is, the new Password Manager (Beta) is as useful as a chocolate teapot.
Anyone agree??
To check your version number in Norton Internet Security, open the main Norton screen and click on Help - About.
thank you Peter. By NIS/size of program, I meant Norton Internet Security - it seemed to me that I'd had that reinstalled, but I can't check.
So we are on the same page. By NIS, are you referring to Norton Identity Safe, or Norton Internet Security?
The Norton Identity Safe has just been renamed to Norton Password Manager. It is not a beta. Any version number can be different depending on the browser you are using. You need to check the Extensions/Add on settings in your browser to find the version number of any given extension. The extensions should automatically update.
The beta reference is just pertaining to the Safety Dashboard feature within Password Manager. There is nothing saying you need to use that feature. It is there if you want to try it out. If not, it does not affect your Password Manager vault in any way. When you open your vault and see the Dashboard bar across the screen, nothing will happen if you do not click on the Fix Now button.
Hello again Peter. Regarding the Beta Password Manager, you say ". . . there was no opt in. It just started appearing on the vault web page." My point, precisely. Will you raise it with the developers, please? It's not the way to introduce a new feature, i.m.o.
And now to test your advice - here's the non-plain English snip that you've already posted but which I couldn't:
Whew - it works. Many thanks Peter.
The only thing now outstanding is how do I get to where I can check what version of NIS I have and check for updates, please? Yank gave me the route in another thread but as I said there I haven't got any icon I can use.
I can't get past the blasted new search box.
You should not be clicking the Search button. You click on the Upload button. As I noted above, the Search button only searches images you have already uploaded to the Norton Forum. If it is somehow being brought up automatically, just click on the Upload button to bring up the dialog to choose the file you want from your computer.
The Safety Dashboard (beta) is a feature that you can access when you sign into your Norton Account, to access your NPM vault. I find it only shows up once in a while when I log in. When it does, you can just scroll up on the page and click the X at the top right to close it. It is a feature that assesses the logins your have for possible security or best practices problems. The old logins you mentioned go against the recommendation to change your passwords often so even if a hacker had gotten an old password it would do them no good. Other notations are for weak passwords and for duplicate passwords. Both of which are not recommended for best protection of your online accounts.
You do not have to use this feature and there was no opt in. It just started appearing on the vault web page.
I still can't post an image from my OneDrive, Peter. I can't get past the blasted new search box.
Thanks Peter for your offer to flag with the forum developers the formatting etc of the search results.
Regarding the new Beta Password thing, it just appeared - but I never ever click on a Beta icon***. I use Edge (which also causes other strange problems). I'll to post an image per your reply in a few minutes.
Another thing is that I can't get to the Check for Updates screen - is that linked to the above problems?
*** I've just hit the Beta button at the top of the screen - it's an invitation to join the panel of testers.
1. New Search facility (when wanting to add a snip/picture to your post) - previously all I had to do was click Search and go to my folder in my OneDrive. But now I'm seeing this - and I haven't got the new password:
2. When I search in another part, instead of getting file names in plain English, this is what I see:
That search box is from within the IMCE button on the forum editor bar. It only searches images you already have stored on the forum. The results you get are a little difficult to read as they include the formatting for symbols and spaces. I'll flag that to the forum developers. If you are looking to search images you have on your computer or some other source, you need to click the Upload button in the IMCE feature.
3. Finally, I now am directed to this new feature:
What are you doing when you are redirected to this feature? Are you opening your vault from your browser? Which browser?
Hello again, Peter. I still can't post images because of the new blasted Search box so I've had to post them in MSComm. My thread is https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/protect_other-protect_updating-windows_10/to-norton-customers-with-norton-internet-security/d9c68451-69ac-4349-b82d-1c714c272e6f?tm=1541939783738
Hopefully this will provide clues as to what is happening. The good news is that when I powered up just now there was update. I installed it and got 101.5 meg (is that the full NIS?) - I'll check what version I have shortly and will update my signature but why is there a new Search box? Are there instructions about it anywhere?
Thank you for your patience.
Peter, I've absolutely no idea why I'm seeing the Beta version of Password Manager. I never, ever select a Beta version as I believe it's the App's owner's job to test it, not mine.
Above those headings it says "Password Manager Safety Dashboard Beta"
From your explanation above, it is not the Password Manager that is a beta, but the Safety Dashboard feature that is in beta. That same dashboard has been there for a while now in the older Identity Safe.
Is it this new Dashboard feature you are having difficulty with?
This is getting silly. I've just spent 30 minutes typing my reply, I pressed Save and it's disappeared, I'll try just one more time: I saved these snips
1. an extract from what was my old Vault, just a horizontal list in black and white that I'd previously saved.
2. an extract from my New Password Manager. This is in colour and shows a list of every password under the headings Website/Password strength/last changed/Duplicate/Action - underneath is a tickbox to 'change now'.
Above those headings it says "Password Manager Safety Dashboard Beta" with Password Overview showing Total/Weak/Duplicate/old/Archived - together with an overall score. Mine is 82 - Strong.
3. When I selected search (to insert an image) instead of taking me to my OneDrive folder as it usually does, it to me to a new small Search window. This contains a tickbox, underneath which is says "search for files in current directory and sub-directories". Underneath this is a tickbox for "case insensitive" with a comment "This option may have no effect depending on your database configuration. Then it asks for a password - none of mine worked.
Overall, I can't post any snips and earlier I had a problem with my reply to Yank had completely different headings/boxes eg instead of normal type, it was stuck on one of the heading options.
I'm giving up for now and will try again tomorrow but to answer your question, Peter, I've absolutely no idea why I'm seeing the Beta version of Password Manager. I never, ever select a Beta version as I believe it's the App's owner's job to test it, not mine.
At the top of this screen are options for Home/Forums/Blogs/Beta/Help. Clicking on that Beta is the usual "do you want to help test our Beta version?" so I can't think of any reason at all why I have the Beta version.
Until tomorrow. Perhaps I'll be able to post images via the IMCE as I've always done.
Am I missing something? The Norton Password Manager should not be listed as a beta. It is just a renamed Norton Identity Safe.
