New patch not applied as thinks IE is open

I installed the new patch and it claimed IE is open and needs to be closed. It wasn't so had to reboot. So much for removing the need to reboot after updates

It does say in the Product Update Release for version 20.2.0.19, that a reboot will be required.

When I booted up this AM:

I also received the 1st part (download) of the patch.  I selected Apply and it started to apply the patch and then stopped - asked me to close IE, closed it down and about 10 seconds later had the apply continue and give me the Explore.  I checked the version number and it had not changed.  I then rebooted and still it has not changed.

At this point I am assuming I only got part of the opatch and will sit here patiently awaiting word of the relase of the second phase.

Indeed I see now the patch notice does say that. So the claim for the claim for the latist versioin that "All patches and product upgrades will be downloaded automatically and will not require a restart" which is what I was going by didn't last long!

I just updated to v20.2.0.19 and it did not require any reboot at all.

I have shared the experience with the updated version in another post, NIS 2013 20.1.1.2, marked as solved now.

The so called new patch sucks, as does NIS 2013. It's all extremely buggy at best. I installed it last night in the U.S. and my NIS 2013 version is still 20.1.1.2. I think I'm ditching Norton when I upgrade to Windows 8.

Hi brkkab123,

If your version is still at 20.1.1.2, you have not yet gotten the actual patch.  As the announcement said:  "Some of you may receive an update via LiveUpdate, but your version remains at 20.1. This is normal, and part of the phased deployment."
