Newbie needs help with Gmail

Hi,

Sorry to bother you with what is probably a ridiculously easy situation, but I have a problem accessing my Gmail account.  It can take up to two minutes to load, and periodically sending emails or even opening them can take 10 to 30 seconds.  This started recently, but I believe it was before updating to Norton Internet Security 2112.  Gmail help indicates it's a problem with Norton, but I'm not so certain.  They indicate I need to NOT block pop-ups only for their Gmail site.  Also, I wonder if it would be advantageous to have Norton NOT delete the cookie for Gmail during it's daily scan.  Can anyone tell me how to accomplish these small changes.  Sorry again, I have almost zero patience with HELP and FAQ files.

I've started using the encrypted login to Gmail, which does help reduce the time to opening.  Comments here?

Also, a year or so ago, I elected to have temp files deleted all at once, instead of continuously, to speed interenet usage.  I thought the temp files would be deleted upon leaving a site but it appears they are being deleted when reentering a site.  Any way I can fix this?  Or simply return to continous deletion?

You should know I opted out of whatever I could concerning Google's new privacy policies.  I.e., they don't send me ads any more, but I'm assuming they are still bundling all my searches and site log-ins, etc.

Thank for your time,

BAB
