Newest Version of Norton 360

Inside Norton 360 you can check whether your version is the newest.  When I check, Symantec responds assurring me I have the newest version.  I downloaded the trial version (21.3.0.12) and compared it to my "current version" (21.2.0.38) to find Symantec was wrong.  This has happened before with earlier versions.

1.  Is the version checker accurate? (apparently not);

2.  How does one really check for a newer version since you can't trust the Norton 360 checker software?

Hi 360_001,

1.  Is the version checker accurate? (apparently not);

Yes, the version checker is extremely accurate.  By way of explaination, Norton considers a new version as being a change from version 20.XX to version 21.XX - thus version 21.2 and version 21.3 wold not be detected as a new version, but rather as an update to the current version 21.  Hope that's clear - so basically the Version checker will not report a New Version  until version 22.XX comes out.

2.  How does one really check for a newer version since you can't trust the Norton 360 checker software?

You can check to see if you are totally up to date by running LiveUpdate (rebooting if requested) until Live Update responds with the specific words "no updates found".

You can also check the Product Updates Announcement Board to see if any new updates have been released.  The use of Labels has been implemented on that boad:

If you only want to know when Norton Internet Security is updated, you just need to:

1) open the board linked above, scroll down to the box marked "Labels", and click the label "Norton Internet Security". This will display all the articles using that label.

2) At the top of that page, it will show a link to SUBSCRIBE to this label. Click that link, and you're all set. Now you will be notified of any new entries posted with the same label.

I hope that helps explain things.

Thanks for the explanation.  I thought any larger number was a "new" version.  Apparently not.  Now I'll know.

Glad you understand what the “new version” means - it confuses a lot of users.
