I installed the latest update for Windows XP yesterday morning.
For a short time afterward, I was able to browse using Mozilla Firefox. Then I got an error that it couldn't connect to the internet.
Internet Explorer still works fine, so I suspected a firewall issue.
I tried to open Norton 360 to investigate, and found that Norton isn't able to function at all. I even tried to uninstall it, and each time I try it just locks up and won't proceed.
I can't run virus updates/scans OR uninstall Norton at this time, and I still can't get online using Firefox.
Hi Girltron,
If you are sure that the problem happened after the Windows Updates, then please try uninstalling that particular update first. Open Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel. Check Show Updates, and find the update which you got installed yesterday. You will be able to find it using the date shown there, in which it got installed.
If the issue persists, re-install those Windows Updates and you can disable the Firewall from Norton 360 and check.
1. Start Norton 360.
2. Click Settings.
3. Click Firewall Protection.
4. Under General Settings tab, uncheck Turn on Firewall.
5. Select Until System Restart and click OK.
6. Click Close.
If you want to uninstall/reinstall Norton 360, follow the steps given below:
1. First, download a Trialware of Norton 360 2.0 from this Symantec Web Page. Don't install it now.
2. Go to this LINK and follow the instructions for uninstall. Run Norton removal tool multiple times(2-3 times) to make sure that all components are completely uninstalled.(Make sure to get the Product Key before uninstall)
3. After uninstalling, install the Trailware you have downloaded. You can install and activate it using the same product key. Run LiveUpdate repeatedly until you see the message that no more updates are available.
Let us know results.

As I mentioned, Norton 360 completely freezes every time I try to do ANY process, including uninstall it from add/remove programs.
Norton 360 is completely inaccessible at this time. How can I make changes to the program when it won't even let me open or uninstall it?
Girltron,
Hope that you have not read my post correctly or completely. Norton 360 is inaccessible for you at this time. But, if the problem is due to the Windows Updates, uninstalling that particular Windows Update may resolve this. So, you may be able to access the Norton 360 afterwards. That is why I have provided the instruction to uninstall Windows Updates first(not Norton 360). Again, if you are still facing the problem with Norton 360, you can go ahead with uninstall Norton 360 using Norton removal tool and reinstall it (I have already provided those steps in the previous post). Be patient and go through the steps one by one.

OK I uninstalled the latest XP updates I had previously installed.
That did not change the issues I was having. I still could not access the internet through Firefox, nor could I open Norton 360 NOR could I uninstall Norton 360.
I tried downloading the Norton Uninstaller for 360 and the file wasn't available to download! Somehow my browser couldn't connect to it or it's broken, one of the two.
I think I've determined that the firewall issue must have happened while Norton was either updating the virus definitions OR running a background scan, now that I know it wasn't the XP update. I don't know how to get Norton off of there and I'm really getting frustrated with this program now!
Girltron,
Check with your Internet service provider(ISP) and make sure that you have FTP enabled. You can download the Norton Removal tool only through FTP. If you don't have it enabled in your computer, try to download it in any other computer which is having FTP access and then transfer to your computer through CD-RW/Flashdrive.
You have to try one way or other to resolve this issue. I can understand how much frustration it may be, but we cannot confirm whether it is Norton update or the Windows Update itself which has caused the issue. Sometimes, it may be the improper Windows update which has damaged the NOrton program also. Since you have already uninstalled the Windows Update, and the problem still persists, better to uninstall Norton program and reinstall it(If you want).
