Hang on for one of the Norton Staffers ā€“ names in red ā€“ since Iā€™m sure they can guide you through the jungle!

01. Have you tried clicking on "Norton Account" in the Norton Product?  Please remember that this is Trailware and you may not be able to Register the Norton Product until you fully Buy it.

02. Crimeware Protection Blocks attempts by programs to get personal information, e.g. Screen Shot, Keylogger.  This Feature should be turned on at all times.

03. When your Product Trailware runs out, you will have to buy the product; however, N.I.S. 2009 will be Released by then and I would strongly advise that you buy this Norton Product.

Hi Zana,

Let me try to answer your queries...

 1. Norton Account.

Since you have the pre installed version of NIS 08 (60 day trial version), it may or may not be registered to the Norton Account.  I have seen instances where the pre installed version of Norton product registered to the Norton account for HP customers.

The best way to clarify this is to contact the customer support team. They will be able to check with your email id in their database.

Contact them by using the following link

http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/index.jsp

Even if it is not registered, your subscription will be active for 60 days. It will not get expired after 15 days.

2.Crimeware protection.

Crimeware protection blocks some programs which can get downloaded to your computer while using internet. These malicious programs can access or gather private information from your computer and can send it to another person. It can take a screenshot of your password and can send.

The best example of these programs is a keylogger.

Keylogger is a program which gets downloaded to your computer and monitors your keystroke, saves your keystroke and send it to to a third party. The third party can use this information or passwords for various purposes.

Crimeware protection monitors and blocks such programs.

3.The new product.

Since you have purchased a new product, you can activate the Norton product using this product key. After activation, it will prompt you to register to Norton account. Select the option, create a new Norton account and fill the fields. If the product does not allow you to create a new one, that means you already have a Norton account registered with that E-mail address. In that case you can contact the customer service team, they will be able to send you the password for the Norton Account.

Hi :smileyhappy:

Thank You To You All ... For Your Great Advice!

1/ Re : Norton Account

I think I'll wait and see if Norton prompts me to register.

If Not... I'm sure It will ask me when the 60 days run out.:smileywink:

2/ Re : Crimeware Protection

As soon as I switch on my laptop later this evening... Crimeware Protection will be getting Switched - ON

I'm not sure why it was - OFF :smileysurprised:

Could HP have set it that way for a reason?

e.g.

May it have caused problems with the initial set up of the computer?

Does it cause problems with things like System Restore?

Are there any issues with Crimeware Protection?

I know I've heard something about it... But I can't remember what!

3/ Re : My Disk Product Key

Where do I have to put it?

I Know about the Renew Subscription button - However...

I remember someone on here saying something about the Product Key not fitting in the box

Something to do with the.. Trial Norton - Purchased Online Product Key .. And .. Purchased Disk Product Key...

Having a different number of Characters / Digits :smileysad:

I remember someone saying they had to activate their Norton by clicking somewhere else.

Thanks Again!

I Know...

September 15th ... Isn't it?

I only found out a couple of days ago.

Just my luck! :smileysad:

I wouldn't have bothered buying NIS 08 ... If I'd known NIS 09 was going to be out so soon.

The Thing Was...

When I bought my laptop ... The fella in PC world was trying to push me into to buying N360 v2

I kept telling him... " I don't want it ... I've already got N360 v2 "

* N360 v2 On My Desktop .... Problems, Problems, Problems

I had to give up in the end :smileymad:

So the fella somehow manged to push me into NIS 08 ( One Licence ) = Ā£ 30

N.I.S. 2009 will be Released by then and I would strongly advise that you buy this Norton Product.

This does however lead me to another question...

If I was to download a Trial of NIS 09 .... Would I be able to use my new NIS 08 product Key?

* I've already wasted so much money on Norton disks in the last 2 years :smileysad:

Desktop Computer...

Purchased Disk No 1 : Packard Bell - XP ....  NIS 2006 ... No Problem!

However...

Purchased Disk No 2 : Packard Bell - XP .... N360 ... Big Problems - Computer Killed!

New - Desktop Computer...

Note : Came with a trial of NIS 07 .... This stopped working after 3 weeks

Purchased Disk No 3 : HP - Vista Home Premium ... N360 ... No Problem! ( Yes.. Another N360 Disk )

Stupidly...

I did the free upgrade to N360 v 2 ... Big Problems!

Even More Stupid - I thought buying the disk would help...

Purchased Disk No 4 : HP - Vista Home Premium ... N360 v2 ... Big Problems!

( Never even got to use my Product Key )

* Desktop eventually ended up with AVG

Laptop...

HP - Vista Home Premium

Currently running trial of NIS 08 ... No Problems - So Far!

Purchased Disk No 5 : The NIS 08 disk that I bought last week - ( Not Yet Used! )

* So you can understand why I don't want to have to buy another disk just yet :smileysad:

Thanks!

Sorry!

I've just accidentally clicked -  Mark As A New Message ... Instead of - EDIT :smileysurprised:

Hi Zana

For my 2 cents worth,Norton 360 needs alot of ram,i had it for my first anti virus but it was to big for my system major crash(possibly other factors  helped).so i went with NIS 2008 no problems other than my inexperience with pcs etc.plus when i contacted norton after a few months they gave me a refund on the 360 product,so maybe contact them or they will read this and help you too!

cheers Mo

YES!!! As long as you have a valid subscription, you can always update to the latest version of the program. I'm not sure why floating red's message is always to wait for 2009 product.... it doesn't really matter which you buy, because when 2009 is available all you have to do is download it.... assumming you have days on your subscription....

Hi Mo :smileyhappy:

I have plenty of RAM :smileywink:

OK... My now deceased XP - Did only had 1 GB ... But that was good for XP

Even though it was only 12 months  ago... Most people only had about 1 GB of RAM back then

My - Vista Desktop : 3 GB

And My New  - Vista Laptop : 4 GB

Note : Both Desktop & Laptop : 32 bit - Vista

Thanks!

I "said" that because the user has a 090-day Trailware of N.I.S. 2008; is this correct or have you already bought N.I.S. 2008?  Please confirm.  After the Trailware is up, the User should buy N.I.S. 2009.

And I am fully-aware that people with a Valid Subscription can Upgrade for free!

But would I have to activate my product Key as NIS 08 first?

OR...

Could I keep my New Unused Product Key for NIS 09 ?

What I Mean Is...

By the time my trial of NIS 08 has ran out .... NIS 09 should be available.

If a trial of NIS 09 is available - Couldn't I just...

1/ Uninstall my used up trail of NIS 08

2/ Download a trial of NIS 09

3/ Use My Brand New Unused Product Key ( From my new NIS 08 Disk ) ..

To Activate NIS 09 for the full 12 months subscription?

Thanks!

Hi Floating _Red :smileyhappy:

I am currently using a preinstalled Trial of NIS 08

However...

I have already - Stupidly... Bought the NIS 08 Disk

Until a few days ago..

I didn't think NIS 09 would be out for ages! :smileysad:

I bought the Disk of NIS 08 last week.

But the Product Key has NOT been used ... Because I'm still using the preinstalled trial of NIS 08

Now I'm wondering if I could use my New Unused Product key for NIS 09 ... Instead of using it for NIS 08

Thanks!

Hi Zana,

    How are you?

I would suggest Posting your question here: http://community.norton.com/norton/board?board.id=nis_pb

You will have to Activite that N.I.S. 2008; however, I am sure you may be able to use N.I.S. 2008 Product Key on N.I.S. 2009, not sure though.  If you Activite the N.I.S. 2008, you can Upgrade for free via the symantec Online Store.  :)

<< I bought the Disk of NIS 08 last week.

Keep it that way and run the trial version until it runs out, or NIS2009 is available. If you install the NIS08 from the CD and activate it your subscription will run from that date; purchased retail CDs do not add their period to the unexpired subscription as a purchased renewal on line does.

It has been confirmed that once NIS2009 is on sale that the unused/unexpired NIS2008 KEY will work on NIS2009. If by any chance you have already installed the purchased NIS2008 by then all is not lost since either the update to 09 will do it automatically or you can tell the activation module "Use an existing Key" and it will get it from your Norton Account.

I see you refer to buying from PCWorld -- just for others: that's a UK chain of computer stores, not the magazine!

Yes you can. If you wait for NIS 2009 to be released, you can use your NIS 2008 activation key in that product.

If you're concerned about your current system security though, you can also install NIS 2008 and activate it now. When NIS 2009 is released, you can download and install the free update to NIS 2009 that will "pick up" your NIS 2008 subscription. Thanks!

That's Fantastic News! :smileyvery-happy:

I'm Really Chuffed :smileywink:

I can't wait to try out - Norton Internet Security 2009

My Product Key is only for - one licence ( one computer ) ... Which I'll be using on my new laptop.

However...

If all goes - OK

And NIS 09 gives me no problems on my laptop.

You never know ...

I might be tempted to ditch AVG 8 ... And  buy a one licence NIS 09 Disk for my Desktop.

OR...

I might just wait for Norton 360 v 3 to come out ... And buy that for my Desktop :smileyhappy:

Thanks! :smileyvery-happy:

Hi :smileyhappy:

Me Again!

Re : My Trial of - NIS 08

I've Turned.... Crimeware Protection - ON

All OK There! :smileywink:

But can I ask one more question please...

I've noticed where it says User Account Control .... It says - Ignored

Would HP have set it to say - Ignored?

OR...

Does NIS 08 say...  User Account Control - Ignored ... By Default?

When I tried clicking on this setting - It asked me did I want to... Monitor - User Account Control

I clicked off it... Because I wasn't sure of the answer :smileyindifferent:

So can someone tell me please...

Am I supposed to have NIS 08 ...  Monitor - User Account Control ?

NOTE : My User Account Control Is Turned - ON

Thanks!
