Hi
Me Again!
Re : My Trial of - NIS 08
I've Turned.... Crimeware Protection - ON
All OK There!
But can I ask one more question please...
I've noticed where it says User Account Control .... It says - Ignored
Would HP have set it to say - Ignored?
OR...
Does NIS 08 say... User Account Control - Ignored ... By Default?
When I tried clicking on this setting - It asked me did I want to... Monitor - User Account Control
I clicked off it... Because I wasn't sure of the answer
So can someone tell me please...
Am I supposed to have NIS 08 ... Monitor - User Account Control ?
NOTE : My User Account Control Is Turned - ON
Thanks!
It is up to you, although I would Monitor this U.A.C. to make sure nothing is wrong with it.
It is set to Ignore by Default.
Hi
Sorry for jumping in but where do you find user account control,I have NIS 2008.I know what chuffed means.Glad I know something on the net.LOLmy PC had less than 1 GB a case of being too naive and going for bigger is better.you learn by your mistakes.

Hi Mo
Re : Vista - User Account Control ( UAC - For Short! )
When you said... Where do you find user account control?
Did you mean... Where do you find UAC in NIS 08
OR
Did you mean... Where do you find UAC in Vista
Re : UAC - NIS 08
1/ Open Norton
2/ Make sure you're on the tab that says - Home
3/ Now look under the title - Computer
4/ It should say - Windows Account Control
* You can get Norton to Monitor UAC
* I suppose in case Malware ever tries to disable it... Norton would warn you that it had been switched off
5/ Click On - Windows Account Control
6/ Click On - Monitor
Re : UAC - Vista
1/ Click On - Start
2/ Click On - Control Panel
Tip!
* Make sure you are looking at Control Panel - Home ... Not Control Panel - Classic
* You can change how you view Control Panel by clicking...
Home or Classic - In the menu on the left of the window.
* I always use - Home
3/ Click On - User Account and Family Safety
4/ Click On - User Accounts
5/ Click On - Turn User Account Control ON or OFF
WARNING!
I do NOT recommend that you turn User Account Control - OFF
If you do turn UAC - OFF ... You will also lose Protected Mode in Internet Explorer.
UAC - Helps to protect your computer from Malware.
Example...
If you're doing something on your computer- ( e.g. Makeing a System Restore Point ) - And UAC Pops Up! ...
You know that it's OK to click - Continue
However...
If you were just sitting at your computer one day - ( Maybe just typing on here ) - And UAC Popped Up! ...
You would Not click - Continue
Because this would be UAC alerting you / Warning you... That changes were being made to your computer.
Very Possibly... A Virus trying to make Changes
Please Leave... UAC - ON
Hope This Helps!

I think you are "blind".
You are on the correct Page, N.P.C.; please remember it will say User Account Control and not U.A.C.. If it is Ignored, then it will be at the very top of the list - Ignored is in grey - and if it is not Ignored, then it will be somewhere in that list.
Hi Floating_Red
I'm sorry but I can't find anything that says user account control???can anyone upload a screen shot of what I should be looking at.I'm a bit confused now.you know I'm new to this but I can follow instructions.I mean I'm prepared to look like a dill/silly but I would rather have clarity on where this is on my Norton NIS 2008
cheers Mo
Hi all
I have been looking in the help section and is there supposed to be another section for internet explorer settings as that is not on that page as well?.do I need to start a new thread as I'm going off the topic on this one and I would like this resolved.thanks for any help
Mo
Hi Mo
It sounds like you were in the right place
I'm not sure why you're not seeing what I'm seeing
Can you just confirm... You are using Vista aren't you?
Windows XP doesn't have User Account Control.
One Other Thing...
Norton has named User Account Control slightly differently.
Norton lists It As - Windows Account Control
This is how I get to it
If you are using the Norton Sidebar Gadget....
On The - Norton Sidebar Gadget... Click On - Home
Now you should see the...
Norton Protection Centre
At the top of the window - There are 2 tabs...
Make sure you're on the one that says - Home
Under where it says - Norton Protection Centre....
You should see the title - Computer
And under the title - Computer - The first thing you should be able to see is....
Windows Account Control .... This is - User Account Control - ( UAC For Short! )
Hope This Helps!

Hello, mo,
If you have Windows X.P., then it will not be there; it is only available in Vista as far as I am aware.
Aha the penny drops!!!!
Thanks guys, well when I get round to getting vista at least I will know where the user account control is.!!
again a big thankyou to you both Zana/Floating_Red.
Cheers Mo
Hi Mo
No Problem!
