NIS 09 Live Update - trying to understand the behavior/architecture

I had previously been running ZoneAlarm Pro, SpySweeper, and Norton Anti-virus 2008.

A few days ago, I uninstalled all of those and replaced them with NIS 09.

Previously, the Symantec products I had PCA 11.5 and NAV 08 used LiveUpdate (I've updated to the latest 3.5.0.64).  I had actually turned off automatic updates both in NAV 08 and in the Control Panel applet.  I did this because I did not want product updates happening without my knowledge and I would manually do updates every morning.  See below:

However, having installed NIS 09, I decided that I want the protection of Automatic LiveUpdates and Pulse Updates.

After running for a couple of days, I have come to the conclusion that NIS 09 uses its own built-in LiveUpdate scheduler and engine which is independent of the LiveUpdate engine installed under "C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\".  My reasons:

(1)  Running LiveUpdate from PCA does not show NIS 09 as an installed product.  Normally, all Symantec products would be listed.

(2)  Adjusting the LiveUpdate interval in the Control Panel applet seems to have no effect on Automatic Live Update in NIS 09.

(3)  The event entries made in the Window's Application Log by Automatic LiveUpdate do not correspond with the timings and execution of Automatic LiveUpdate displayed in NIS 09's CPU Usage display.

So, my conclusion is that although NIS 09 calls this feature "Automatic LiveUpdate" it is completely distinct from prior Symantec products.  Am I correct?

As such, there is no way to control or adjust NIS 09's Automatic LiveUpdate?

I have seen it written NIS 09's Automatic LiveUpdates run every four hours?  Is that correct or is that based on prior defaults which were 240 minutes?

Will doing a Manual LiveUpdate reset the NIS 09 schedule for Automatic LiveUpdate?

Is it ever necessary to do a Manual LiveUpdate with NIS 09?

Are Manual LiveUpdate and Automatic LiveUpdate identical in terms of NIS 09?

Thank you for your help and illumination.
