NIS 09 Norton History entries

My reason for posting to this forum is three fold… I want Norton to see this, I hope I can help someone else with this mess, and I need encouragement from those of you here who seem to know what you’re talking about, more than the Norton Tech’s at least. When I loaded NIS ’09 two months ago, everything was fine. Then the other day while viewing Norton History, I noticed all these crazy entries. What they were is irrelevant, as they are varied and inconsistent. (Some said “Unauthorized Access Blocked / Open Process Token” or “Norton Community Watch Feedback” etc….  I read a lot about it on the web, but was very uneasy seeing all these entries, some every second for minutes at a time, always hundreds per day. Nothing I read about could solve the problem, either by digging deep in the Registry, or by running countless Malware programs. I was concerned as I do bank online, so I decided to call Norton directly. I was told by the first guy, that I most definitely had a Hacker Trojan and all my private info would soon be comprised. He said he would connect me with a Tech who would clean the virus from my computer for $99. I reluctantly agreed and spent the next three hours with the tech. When we were all finished, the darn entries were still happening, and the tech said “this is normal.” I blew a gasket and demanded my money back and thanked her for a wasted afternoon. She connected me with Norton Customer Relations, who said he would not refund my money because they did in fact perform a service. To make a long story short, 30 minutes later and some yelling…. I got the refund. He had to admit they blew it big time on this one.    This forum gave me some relief, when some of you said that nothing is being harmed here by these crazy entries and that it was just a “bug” and would straighten itself out in time.  I have to tell you, I have my doubts, as no one has been able to explain this problem to me yet. All I can do is wait, and hope others don’t fall into the same Norton trap I did yesterday. I don’t think they were being malicious, but they certainly weren’t very interested in getting to the root of the problem….  Is AVG any good????

A quick note:  An IT guy at work yesterday suggested I install Microsoft Security Essentials anti-virus.  I did some research, it seems like an OK program, and it’s free…. I have to admit, my system is running smoother now.  I talked to Microsoft today on an unrelated issue, and the Tech said that Microsoft offers phone tech support to handle virus problems at no charge if you’re running the above mentioned suite. Seems like they are bending over backwards to please people right now….   I was a Symantec customer for a long time, but this offer is too hard to refuse. Good luck guys….
