I'm using Vista Ultimate 64 bit version on 2 PCs (Desktop and Laptop). Since the Live Update to 16.5, I've had problems logging into both PCs and when finally logged in, Windows Explorer stops responding or Norton does not start (sidebar gadget is white with revolving symbol).
I spent a lot of time the other day trying to identify where the problem might be. Performing a clean boot and disabiling all non-Microsoft and Norton services did not resolve the problem. I then tried disabling the Microsoft services as well and the PC started properly. Finally, I enabled Microsoft services 5 at a time and re-booted after each batch. After about 20 or so interations I discovered that the problem occurs when the WMI services is enabled.
I contacted Norton support through the live chat and after about 3 aborted attempts got someone who seemed to understand the problem. However, he was not able so suggest a fix; aprart from disabling WMI and hoping that a future program update would resolve the issue.
Does anyone have any better ideas?
