NIS 16.7.2.11: Users with restricted rights cannot access the product.

I use NIS2009 on 3 Computers with WinXP SP3 (1 XP Pro, 2 XP Home).

NIS2009 worked fine on all computers until last week.

 

It is now about 5 days, that on 1 Computer (WinXP Pro) NIS2009 (16.7.2.11) works just with users with admin-rights.

Users with restricted rights cannot interact with NIS2009:

  • they do not get any Icon in the system-tray
  • starting NIS from the desktop-link results in a process "uiStub.exe" in the task-manager, but no NIS-window opens
  • after about 10 minutes they get an warning-message:
    NIS2009.jpg  
    "To use 1-click-support, you must logon as administrator"
    and the process uiStub.exe disappears

 


If I give these users admin-rights, NIS works without problems.
Changing these users back to restricted rights, the phenomenon is there again.

 

 

 

note1:

I already deinstalled NIS, reinstalled NIS, removed it with the Norton-Removal-Tool, reinstalled NIS, the behavior is always the same: NIS works fine (16.0.0.125), until live-update installs the latest update (16.7.2.11).

 

note2:

NIS2009 (16.7.2.11) accepted on both WinXP-Home-Computers all types of users, admin-users as well as restricted-rights-users from the beginning without reinstallations.
