I have a computer running NIS 18.5 (2011) on Windows 7 -- let's call it the "local" computer.
On a completely separate PC I have a UPnP/DLNA music player application running -- let's call this the "remote" computer.
On the local computer I can run any UPnP/DLNA media control point (for example Windows Media Player 12) to select a music file and "Play To" the music player application on the remote computer.
Behind the scenes, the Play To function passes an Url for the respective music file to the remote application, and then the remote application does an HTTP GET to download the file for playing.
The above is the theory. But my problem is that when the remote computer makes its HTTP GET request, the local computer freezes solid. I think this is due to NIS Firewall blocking the request (but it is not just blocking, it is also freezing).
I mentioned Windows Media Player 12, but in fact the exact same problem occurs with other media control points (Asset Control, Intel UPnP AV Media Controller), so I don't think it is the fault of the control point software on the local machine. Also, it is hard to blame the music player application on the remote machine (since making a GET request over the LAN -- even if it is malformed in some way -- should NOT cause the local machine to freeze).
Any suggestions how to resolve this?
