As I needed to use my computer and I’d tried the Technical Support with no success I’m afarid I uninstalled all of Norton and replaced it with another product.

I'm currently using NIS 2007, acted on the popup to 'upgrade' to 2008 but afterwards could not start computer properly - desktop freeezes before fully installing. Can get Safe Mode and nothing else.

Tried Technical Help. Couldn't fault them for the time as after 2 hours still not resolved. Remote Control 'dropped' me. Technician emailed me to say case would be held open (not much use when the fault means I cannot access the Internet or email). My problems increase as I had to spend quite a while working out what he did in System Configuration before I was left on my own. I can still only start PC in Safe Mode.

I have tried uninstalling 2008 (using the removal tool), reinstalling 2007 and the problem still happens after running Live Update so I guess that is causing the problem.

I have Service Pack 3 for XP installed and I have tried the registry clean up - no problems found.

Can anyone help or do I have to go elsewhere?

Hi Vicki,

Try downloading and installing http://www.symantec.com/newnis to download the free UPDATE to the latest version. If you have a current subscription, it will pick up the subscription and apply it to NIS 2008. Please let me know if you've already tried this and it didn't work, and any errors you receive. Thanks!
