NIS 2008, 2009 and 2010 making Windows XP run slowly

I would like to start a thread on this as Symantec deny this is an issue.

Could other users out there give me some feedback?

I have installed NIS 2008, 2009 and 2010 on many Windows XP systems.  I has not mattered what manufacturer or whether its a laptop or desktop.  The systems have always been equal to or above the minimum requirements.

I have recently installed 2010 on 3 XP systems and all have slowed down.  They take for ever to start - well 5 to 10 minutes.  They disappear (render the system unusable) for several minutes at random times (disabling Norton stopped this).  All the symptoms I have experienced before.

I have always found this to be an issue with NIS on Windows XP.  I would argue that NIS 2010 is an improvement.  The lower the spec on the system the worse the effect.

I bought a new laptop with Vista and NIS 2009 and 2010 have not been an issue.  If the slow operation had persisted I would have stopped using NIS as my preferred Internet security.

I like NIS and would love to be able to recommend using it with and XP system but in general it is embarrassing to recommend it on an XP system.

In general my techy friends have stopped using NIS but I like it.  They have stopped using it because of the system overhead issues.  This was an issue with XP.  They now use other IS packages so I can't compare.

Am I the only person to have found this to be an issue?

Thanks

Howard
