It should work when you have things configured the regular way

It is configed by most defaults. Only thing is when first installed I changed the auto decide what to do to asking me what to do for the first couple of weeks so it would ask me if I wanted to allow programs such as Word, Excel, Adobe etc to access the internet. After a couple of weeks I switched it back to auto decide.

Is the Norton Internet Security machine the vpn client or the vpn server? If the client, what protocols is the VPN using? Can you indicate what VPN software you are using? If the server, you’ll probably have to go and create some explicit rules based upon the server application and protocols that are being used.

Actual I have NIS installed on both the client (XP Pro) and server (XP Pro). If I disable the NIS only on the server it works. The protocol of the client is set as automaticly. I am using XP VPN on both machines.

What explict rules would I use?

Did you configure your NIS on the sever some special way?

No I did not configure it. I just told it to ask me what to do for a few weeks. But during that time I did not have a VPN.

This week end I reset the rules etc to default and it is still blocking. If I disable the firewal it allows connections.

tbolt, the Norton Internet Security products aren't designed to run in traditional "server" environments. That doesn't mean that they can't be, but that the configuration is not as automated as it would be for "client" applications.

To allow the XP VPN server to work, you need to allow rules to allow inbound, unsolicited communications. From the limited search that I did for this information, you need to allow:

1723 TCP & UDP for PPTP

500 TCP & UDP for IPSEC

You may also need to allow 50 & 51but it's not clear to me why.
